This is a battle of economy.
Sam Curran has settled into a decent line and length now - he's really challenging BJ Watling's off stump.
He's only around the 79mph mark but he forces a prod from Watling but it sails through to Jos Buttler. England aren't having much luck today.

Cian Davies: Could the pitch be any flatter? Nothing worse for bowlers when the pitch is as flat as a pancake.
There's a strangled appeal from Joe Root at first slip as Mitchell Santner ducks another bouncer. Ben Stokes was having none of it though and turned back to his mark almost immediately.
Santner is handling the short ball much better now after his earlier struggles when he looked like a walking wicket.
Another couple of singles keeps the scoreboard ticking.

The bigger this lead grows for New Zealand, the more it changes the mindset of the England batsmen.
Just two runs from Curran's first over of the day.
BJ Watling's single comes from another fumble from Jofra Archer. To be fair, he probably saves three runs on this occasion as he gets across at mid-on to stop a drive.
His fielding hasn't been the best in this Test, though. Ben Stokes was heard shouting "this is Test cricket" to him at one point.
A double change for England as Sam Curran replaces Jofra Archer.
How the tourists could do with Curran's golden arm striking right now.

Matthew Ellard: Billy the Trumpet used to be my trumpet teacher when I was 10. Only now I've started listening to the coverage do I realise why he had to rearrange so many lessons.
BJ Watling's highest score in Test cricket is 142 not out, he's only 16 runs away from beating that now.
He ducks a leg-side bouncer to end the over.
Shot!
It's not a bad delivery from Ben Stokes but BJ Watling just guides him through the covers, off the back foot, for his second boundary of the day.
Ben Stokes, who said he was struggling slightly with his knee yesterday, replaces Stuart Broad.

In terms of setting the tone in the first half hour of the day, England have been much improved. They just haven't been able to make the breakthrough.
Another maiden. Joff has bowled five in a row now.
Mitchell Santner plays the short ball well again before digging out an excellent yorker. Clever bowling from Archer.
I wouldn't say it's always about bowling at 95mph, Tattz.
Jofra Archer proved that at Headingley during the Ashes when he dropped his speed on a pitch that provided plenty of support to the bowlers.
It's about bowling a consistent line and length and challenging the batsman rather than being predictable. That was something England didn't do enough of yesterday.

Will we ever see bowling from Jofra as devastatingly fast as that 95mph spell in the Ashes again? It just feels like he's never hit those heights again. Was it a one off?
Tattz
England have been much fuller this morning but they still haven't found that crucial breakthrough.
They are keeping things tight though. New Zealand have only scored nine runs from the opening 10 overs.
Mitchell Santner picks up the first single of the day with a flick into the on side.
This partnership is now worth 87 off 245 balls. Very frustrating for England.
Shall we file this under 'things that definitely won't happen in 2019-20 Australian cricket season'?

Yesterday BJ Watling told the media he recognises he's a limited player who can't play the big shots others can, so he takes them out of his game.
Steven Finn has just been singing one of the songs the Barmy Army sung about him during his England career. It's all going on this evening.
That's an ugly shot BJ Watling. It's wide from Jofra Archer and the Kiwi just wafts at it, almost edging through to Jos Buttler.
Another maiden. That's six in the opening eight overs.
England have bowled 150 overs now. It's been a long slog in the field.
