  1. NZ 590-7published at 196.4 overs

Tim Southee plays at one that turns down leg from Joe Root.

Jos Buttler takes it and there is a big appeal for caught behind. Umpire Bruce Oxenford shakes his head.

Root is livid. He reckons that's out. England don't have a review to use.

He seems to have batted forever in this Test. A superb innings. A triumph of patience.

  4. 200 runs

200 for Watlingpublished at 196.2 overs

    Masterful. What an innings.

BJ Watling reaches his double ton as he taps round the corner and scampers through.

Literally the perfect innings given the situation when he arrived at the crease. He has batted England out of the Test and perhaps put his side on course for victory.

I think that single was fine.

  6. NZ 589-7published at 196 overs

    Watling 199, Southee 2

BJ Watling drives just wide of extra cover and takes on the fielder.

A sharp run, a dive and he's home as the throw misses.

He'll be on 199 to start the next over.

  7. NZ 588-7published at 195.4 overs

BJ Watling defends it down and the ball rolls towards the stumps but he has plenty of time to kick it away.

England have kept the standards high with the fielding, they haven't fallen apart.

  9. NZ 588-7published at 195.1 overs

Tim Southee drives just wide of extra cover to pick up one as the fielder dives to stop it.

That returns BJ Watling to the crease on 198...

  11. NZ 587-7published at 195 overs

    Lead by 234

Southee taps into the leg side and runs. Buttler gets to it and throws on the turn but misses. Think Southee would've been fine anyway.

  12. Not outpublished at 02:30 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2019

Foot in crease all the way. On we go.

It could be out. A one in a 100 chance.

  14. Third umpirepublished at 194.5 overs

Tim Southee is beaten on the outside edge by Joe Root and leans forward.

Jos Buttler takes off the bails and they're going to check the stumping.

I don't think Southee went anywhere.

  15. NZ 585-7published at 194.2 overs

Shewd batting from BJ Watling as he picks up a drag down from Joe Root early and uses his feet to whip it through a gap in the covers for four.

That takes him to 197. Nervous 190s? No chance.

That partnership of 261 is the fifth highest seventh-wicket stand in history.

  17. NZ 580-7published at 194 overs

    Lead by 227

New man Tim Southee, who has had his pads on since 1993, jabs loosely at his first ball outside off and there is a half-hearted appeal for caught behind.

    Nothing doing.

It was an innings of two parts. Yesterday was a little bit awkward but today, even though he wasn't scoring many runs, he looked more at ease with the short ball. Once New Zealand were going well and looking to up the scoring rate he came into his own.

England have a wicket! The last time they took a wicket was almost 24 hours ago. It was a really outstanding 126 from Mitchell Santner.
