  1. SURREY DRAW WITH NOTTSpublished at 13:12 British Summer Time 26 September 2019
    Breaking

    Surrey 402-6 dec v Notts 77-1

The field is still too damp after a deluge of rain for much of the past couple of days.

Surrey finish in sixth place on 133 points while Notts have had a season to forget and end at the bottom of the table on 67 points without a win in 2019.

  2. Play due to start at Lord'spublished at 13:12 British Summer Time 26 September 2019

    Middx 260 v Derbys 199-4

The players will be back on the park now after no play this morning.

  3. WATCH: Somerset make breakthroughpublished at 13:11 British Summer Time 26 September 2019

Somerset have taken one of the 20 wickets they need today to have a chance of pipping Essex to the title. Here's how James Hildreth took the catch - just - to send Nick Browne on his way.

  4. Afternoon session begins at Grace Roadpublished at 13:11 British Summer Time 26 September 2019

    Leics 155 & 94-1 v Lancs 170 - Lead by 79

I don't think 65 overs is feasible - but who knows?

Hassan Azad (20*) and Colin Ackermann (37*) are back in the middle.

This will probably end in a draw but a lead of 200 with around 40 overs left just might be enough to put the Red Rose under a bit of pressure.

Josh Bohannon will bowl from the Pavilion End.

Glamorgan just missed out on promotion after their must-win match against Durham at the Riverside and the game featuring their promotion rivals (Gloucestershire and Northants) were both abandoned.

Those two draws leave Glamorgan 15 points behind third-placed Gloucestershire at the end of the season.

It has been a respectable campaign nonetheless - with four wins and seven draws in 2019.

Head coach Matthew Maynard told BBC Sport Wales:

“We showed a lot of resilience, but at times our skill level wasn’t quite there with the Worcester game (lost by 155 runs) a great example.

“But in Championship cricket, we have come a long way since last year, the captaincy of Chris Cooke and in his absence David Lloyd has been outstanding, so I thank the lads for all their efforts this year.”

    On his future at Glamorgan:

“That’s the decision for (director of cricket) Mark Wallace and the club, I haven’t had a word with them yet.

“When you’re unsure, you’ve got to look for other jobs and I’ve put my name out there for a couple, so we’ll see what comes of that.

“I’ve really enjoyed this year, but there’s a lot to determine about the direction the club are going to go in, and we need to talk about it."

  6. WARWICKSHIRE DRAW WITH YORKSHIREpublished at 12:55 British Summer Time 26 September 2019

    Yorkshire 261-2 v Warwickshire - match abandoned

Umpires Graham Lloyd and Russell Warren carry out a 12:45 inspection at Edgbaston and promptly call the game off.

Yorkshire opener Tom Kohler-Cadmore finishes the game with 165 not out to his name, runs he made on the opening day.

The White Rose county take seven points, not enough to lift them higher than fifth in the Division One table, with Warwickshire one place - but 34 points - below them, pending the result of Surrey's game at The Oval.

Gloucestershire head coach Richard Dawson hailed all-rounder Ryan Higgins as the "heartbeat of our team" after promotion was confirmed at Bristol.

Their game with Northants was abandoned as a draw, but both will play Division One cricket next season after rivals Glamorgan suffered the same fate at Chester-le-Street.

Higgins scored 958 Championship runs and took 50 wickets this season and Dawson told BBC Radio Gloucestershire: "Bat, ball, energy, positive attitude, irrelevant of the situation - he's a winner and a fighter."

The former England spinner added: "It’s a bit of an anti-climax in a certain way, but it’s brilliant. It’s been a lot of hard work over a number of seasons. I’m really proud of the boys and all of the coaching staff."

  11. rain stops play

Another shower at Tauntonpublished at 12:44 British Summer Time 26 September 2019

    Somerset 203 v Essex 36-1

Looks like this will be the pattern for the day with occasional bursts of rain disrupting whatever play is possible. They are off for the second time since the 12:00 start, with 58 overs to bowl in the day.

Alastair Cook is 14 not out and Tom Westley has yet to score.

  12. Somerset 203 v Essex 36-1published at 12:41 British Summer Time 26 September 2019

    A Cook 14, Westley 0

Two England men together now for Essex with Tom Westley in at number three.

Alastair Cook takes a single, exposing the right-handed Westley to the wiles of Jack Leach.

Westley plays and misses but navigates his way through the rest of the over safely.

  13. wicket

WICKET Browne c Hildreth b Bess 18published at 12:37 British Summer Time 26 September 2019

    Somerset 203 v Essex 35-1

    There's the breakthrough.

Nick Browne pushes forward, the ball flies into short leg James Hildreth's midriff. He fails to take it cleanly, but snatches it at the second attempt at ankle height

    Now then......

  14. Somerset 203 v Essex 34-0published at 12:34 British Summer Time 26 September 2019

    Browne 18, A Cook 12

Turn and bounce for Jack Leach, but Nick Browne lifts his hands high and there is no chance of a glove onto pad. An lbw appeal follows, that one was too high, and then he drifts an arm ball past Browne's defensive prod.

  15. Lunch at Grace Roadpublished at 12:34 British Summer Time 26 September 2019

    Leics 155 & 94-1 v Lancs 170 - Lead by 79

A good fourth stump line from Gleeson and Ackermann carefully leaves.

The fifth ball is very short and wide. That might have slipped out of his hand in the delivery stride.

    An eventful maiden over.

Just the one wicket for the Red Rose. 65 overs (in theory) remain.

A draw is odds on but a result isn't out of the question yet.

    Browne 18, A Cook 12

Dom Bess finds the edge, but the ball doesn't carry to the kneeling Craig Overton at slip. Alastair Cook survives.

The former England captain is rock solid in defence to end another scoreless over. There are 61 left in the day.

  18. Somerset 203 v Essex 34-0published at 12:30 British Summer Time 26 September 2019

    Browne 18, A Cook 12

Jack Leach is trying everything he knows to try and force an initial; breakthrough.

Nick Browne digs one out which barely leaves the surface - that was hitting middle if he'd missed it.

That apart, no major alarms. Maiden.

Dropped catch reprieves Azadpublished at 12:29 British Summer Time 26 September 2019

    Leics 155 & 94-1 v Lancs 170

Another Gleeson ball swings in late but Ackermann is able to leave it.

A straighter ball is nudged to mid-wicket for two.

At the other end Azad plays and misses Bohannon and several fielders think he's nicked it.

Not out. A definite edge to gully is put down by Keaton Jennings.

    Azad survives on 20.

Slip, gully and a short leg on either side of the wicket.

Alastair Cook has plenty of company as he faces a new over from Dom Bess.

Cook goes back to one that keeps a little low but is able to scoop it away through mid-wicket and takes a couple of runs.
