  1. Leics 155 & 123-1 v Lancs 170 - Lead by 107published at 13:55 British Summer Time 26 September 2019

    Azad 44, Ackermann 40

Liam Hurt bowls wide of off stump and Azad punches the ball through point for four. He's on 42.

A single off the last ball so Azad keeps the strike.

Lancashire leg-spinner Matt Parkinson is in the attack and Azad clips the fifth ball to long on for one.

The runs have dried to a trickle and the draw is ever more likely.

  2. Somerset 203 v Essex 51-1published at 13:51 British Summer Time 26 September 2019

    A Cook 27, Westley 2

The ball lobs up to leg-slip and the Somerset fielders claim the catch.

Bowler Dom Bess doesn't seem over-enthused, though, and neither is the umpire. Tom Westley survives.

  3. Somerset 203 v Essex 50-1published at 13:49 British Summer Time 26 September 2019

    A Cook 26, Westley 2

Another over ticks by. No runs for Essex, but that doesn't matter. All they need to do is bat time. The onus is entirely on the Somerset bowlers to take wickets.

"The sun is now officially out once again at Lord's."

Just a short delay as it turns out.

Ethan Bamber is bowling to Leus du Plooy.

  6. Leics 155 & 117-1 v Lancs 170 - Lead by 102published at 13:47 British Summer Time 26 September 2019

    Azad 38, Ackermann 40

Liam Hurt drops short and Azad pulls the ball through square leg for four to take the lead past 100.

At the other end Bohannon bowls a very full length and Ackermann squeezes the ball out to mid on.

Ackermann is beaten on the inside edge by a swinging delivery but survives.

  7. Somerset 203 v Essex 50-1published at 13:46 British Summer Time 26 September 2019

    A Cook 26, Westley 2

Dom Bess drops short and Alastair Cook cuts it away for four to take the Essex total to 50. In these circumstances, and on this pitch, that was a bit of a gift.

  8. Postpublished at 13:43 British Summer Time 26 September 2019

    Vic Marks
Ex-England spinner on BBC 5 Live Sports Extra

"You've got to get them early, even when the ball is spinning. If a batsman gets in for 15-20 minutes, he starts to feel more confident.

"Not a bad man to have in this situation, Alastair Cook. You probably wouldn't swap him for anyone else in the County Championship."

  9. Somerset 203 v Essex 46-1published at 13:40 British Summer Time 26 September 2019

    A Cook 22, Westley 2

Dom Bess again and Alastair Cook misses an attempted sweep. How close to leg stump was that?

Bess finds turn and bounce later in the over, but Cook is unfazed and watches it into the gloves of the keeper.

  10. Leics 155 & 112-1 v Lancs 170 - Lead by 97published at 13:39 British Summer Time 26 September 2019

    Azad 34, Ackermann 39

A bit of swing again for Josh Bohannon but there's enough width for Azad to leave.

A leg side ball runs off a thick edge to fine leg for four.

  11. Somerset 203 v Essex 46-1published at 13:36 British Summer Time 26 September 2019

    A Cook 22, Westley 2

Two singles from the latest Jack Leach over. No sign yet of a switch to seam by Somerset.

  12. Bad light stops play at Lord'spublished at 13:33 British Summer Time 26 September 2019

    Middx 260 v Derbys 221-5

That on-drive might be the last scoring stroke of the season at Lord's.

It's too dark and rain is falling. Again.

The most minuscule of mini sessions of play ends.

About 22 minutes by my watch.

  13. Somerset 203 v Essex 44-1published at 13:32 British Summer Time 26 September 2019

    A Cook 21, Westley 1

A rare boundary as Alastair Cook flicks Jack Leach away through mid-wicket with excellent timing.

Tom Westley's face is a mask of intense concentration as he comes onto a strike after a single, but there's nothing he can do with one which pitches on leg and turns past his bat.

Happily for Westley, there was no nick.

Great to see Marcus Trescothick out on the field in whites - and hi-vis bib - on his final day as a player, even if he is only delivering protective equipment.

    Du Plooy 65, Critchley 11

Ethan Bamber hustles in and bowls a bit wide of off stump and Du Plooy drives through the off side for four.

A Murtagh short ball is hooked for one by Critchley safely to backward square leg.

One more for Du Plooy after another short ball.

I hate to say this but the ground staff are hovering on the boundary edge...

Shot! Critchley drives Murtagh wide of mid on for four.

  15. Somerset 203 v Essex 39-1published at 13:28 British Summer Time 26 September 2019

    A Cook 16, Westley 1

There's a single to Alastair Cook as the ball ricochets away off the forward short leg fielder.

Dom Bess is certain he has Tom Westley with his final delivery, but the umpire declines the lbw shout.

  16. Leics 155 & 104-1 v Lancs 170 - Lead by 88published at 13:27 British Summer Time 26 September 2019

    Azad 26, Ackermann 39

A bit of swing for Bohannon and Ackermann is upright in defence.

    Maiden over.

Liam Hurt drops short and Azad pulls off the hip to fine leg for one.

One more to Ackermann with a nudge in front of square.

A quicker ball hurries Ackermann into a block.

  17. Somerset 203 v Essex 38-1published at 13:26 British Summer Time 26 September 2019

    A Cook 15, Westley 1

Jack Leach rips his first two deliveries past the edge of Tom Westley's bat as the Essex batsman pzsuhes forward tentatively. He looks more secure thereafter but it's a maiden - Leach's fourth.

  18. Somerset 203 v Essex 38-1published at 13:24 British Summer Time 26 September 2019

    A Cook 15, Westley 1

We are back out after lunch at Taunton and Alastair Cook pushes the first ball from Dom Bess wide of the slips for a single.

Tom Westley picks up his first run with a flick down to backward square leg.

The final two balls of the over are pitched up too far, giving them no chance to spin, and Cook smothers comfortably.

Harvey Hosein pushes forward. There's a bit of shape away and the batsman edges to Dawid Malan at second slip.

The new batsman is Matt Critchley.
