I had a dream last night that me and Steve Smith were bowling against each other in the nets. We were both timing everything until he couldn't take any more of the treatment, ran halfway down the track and chucked the ball on to my toes. Knew we couldn't trust this 'reformed' Smith.

Maharaj round the wicket, allowing Sibley to pad away with ease.

    Denly clips to square leg.

Careful accumulation. Maharaj not really threatening here at all.

Richard Fidler: There’s no rush. Longer we bat the more the wicket deteriorates and the harder it is to chase whatever total we set for them or to bat out at least a day. We’ve players who can quickly add 75-100 runs to any total.

Nortje drops a tad short and Denly whips it on the pull out to deep backward square for a couple.

    Sibley ducks under a bumper.

England don't need to take risks.

Anrich Nortje in for Kagiso Rabada.

Impressive in the series so far, can he spark a flurry of wickets for his side?

    Maiden over by Maharaj.

This is foot-on-the-throat time for England. A flurry of wickets would have South Africa back in it.

Of course Joe Denly then almost chips one back to Kagiso Rabada. It drops short of the big fast bowler's grasp though.

Denly then swivels a low pull shot to deep backward square leg for one.

South Africa are bowling in a miserly fashion but don't really look like taking wickets right now.

England's lead is already about half of the maximum that the hosts would want to chase.

How long will they carry on like this?

It's pretty gentle stuff. South Africa are testing Sibley's patience, but he's winning at the moment.

    Mix-up!

Dom Sibley taps and runs. Joe Denly stays home and sets off late.

But the throw is wide and I think Denly would've been safe anyway.

Shot! A scoring shot! A superb scoring shot!

Kagiso Rabada strays full and Dom Sibley - not just a leg side player you know - creams a brilliant cover drive to the fence.

Joe Denly goes on the attack but can't connect with the sweep.

    More defence.

    That's 20 dot balls in a row.

Keshav Maharaj goes over the wicket to Joe Denly too now.

And Denly pads away anything pitching outside leg.

    A maiden.
