I'd love to know what he'd done to deserve that.

When things are this quiet and you're batting for your place in the team, you really don't want to get out in dozy fashion. Crawley drives one back into the stumps at Denly's end. Had Joseph got a finger on the ball - and he wasn't far away - Denly would have been miles out.

West Indies skipper Jason Holder, fielding with two floppy hats on his head, doesn't look too unhappy as Chase bowls a quiet over. This pitch isn't offering a lot at all.

It's a sleepy afternoon in the warm sunshine. That's not to say it isn't competitive, because West Indies are making England work hard, but the hosts are happily blunting the attack.

Stalemate in the stillness, with less movement around the near-empty stadium than normal. Neither side will be displeased. We're just waiting for something to happen...

I assume they're good mates both coming from Kent which would would hopefully rule out any of those shenanigans.

The pair come through for a tight single in this over but both make it comfortably. Crawley gives Denly a thumbs up after he made his ground.

    You all disappoint me.

Denly plays a textbook aerial straight chip to Chase that would have been four but for some good fielding on the rope.

I got a new cricket bag a couple of weeks ago so I moved everything from my old one into the new one, and found an old school jumper and an ancient cereal bar. Unlike chewing gum, the cereal bar tasted absolutely fine.

How did Graham Onions only play nine Tests? A disgrace.

Joe Denly has played more Tests than Neil Fairbrother, Chris Tremlett, David Lloyd, Colin Milburn, Graham Onions, David Steele, James Taylor, Adam Hollioake, Lord Tennyson and Ivo Bligh.

Good question. Long way to go yet but both are playing well here. Someone is going to have to miss out.

Jason Holder won't want Roston Chase to leak runs here. He wants his spinner to hold an end while the seamers rotate.

Denly sweeps for four before Crawley even gets the reverse out.

    Six from the over.

Fantastic shot. He got into it beautifully. Hardest shot to play that but he executed it brilliantly. Poised and didn't try to hit it hard.

  18. Eng 137-2published at 58 overs

    Denly 22, Crawley 17

Crawley is clearly made of smart stuff because after getting that fine delivery he leans on one and unleashes a perfect on-drive for four.

Next ball soft hands prevent any chance of a catch in the slips.

I was just about to write that Crawley was beginning to look confident at the crease but he's just been beaten completely by a fine delivery from Roach.
