Mitch Marsh offers a lot to this Australian team. He bats and then can bowl a some overs in the middle. A bit like Shane Watson did.

    Target 295

Mitchell Marsh is into the attack. If ever there was a time for England to look to move forward, this would be it.

Overs are starting to tick by, acceleration has to come for England.

  4. Eng 69-4published at 21 overs

    Target 295

England didn't really need another batsman to join Bairstow in being unable to get it off the square, but that is what is happening with Billings. Still, they can't win it if they lose wickets. Zampa has 2-6 from four.

    It was beautifully bowled, though.

Too high and missing leg stump.

They should have just asked me.

I think it's worth a gamble. Height might be an issue.

  8. Australia reviewpublished at 20.1 overs

    Eng 68-4

This time Australia want a look.

    Zampa to Billings. A googly.

    Too high for my money...

The thing about Australia was that they were losing wickets but their rate was very good throughout their innings.

I'm just checking that we have previously discussed the similarities between Sam Billings and tennis player Kyle Edmund. They are virtually the same person. England might be happy for Edmund to play a few forehands here. That might be a better way to get the scoreboard moving.

England just need to get some kind of momentum going, it's been stop-start so far.

  12. Eng 63-4published at 19 overs

    Target 295

Bairstow is trying sweeps and reverse-sweeps against Zampa, not with any great success. Two singles from the over. Bairstow has stuck a new grip on his bat handle. Maybe that's been the problem.

Mark Puttick: Stocks in Ben Stokes are currently going through the roof.

I've just learned that the Tuscan Grand Prix is a thing. That's a pizza, right?

It's a bit painful to see Bairstow, who is normally such a good timer of the ball, not getting the pace of this pitch.

  16. Eng 61-4published at 18 overs

    Target 295

Starc's return means it's the end of Josh Hazlewood, who bowled eight overs, three maidens, 2-21. Bairstow is still crawling around in the dark, almost literally given how bleak it is out there. Still, that he's hanging in is doing great service for England.

Jonathan France: This is the worst I’ve seen England bat for nearly 5 years. Timid, trapped on the crease & pedestrian. I know one bad game in 5 years is a pretty good return but this isn’t the England we’re all use to!

  18. Eng 58-4published at 17 overs

    Target 295

Oh, good, Mitchell Starc is coming back on.

    Said no batsman ever.

Adam Zampa: 1/10 for the haircut, 10/10 for the pleading lbw appeal.

  20. Eng 58-4published at 17 overs

Huge appeal from Zampa against Billings. A googly, Billings saved by an inside edge.
