  1. Somerset 51-2published at 11:55 British Summer Time 23 September 2020

It's the Nursery End that Simon Harmer starts off from in this final.

The South African finds an outside edge off his first ball to Eddie Byrom, but safely along the deck for the Somerset opener.

A few other bits of turn and bounce to keep the South African interested for the rest of it.

  2. Postpublished at 11:52 British Summer Time 23 September 2020

After 19 overs and around 80 minutes of play, it's time for spinner Simon Harmer to have a bowl for Essex.

What will he have in store here?

  3. Somerset 50-2published at 11:51 British Summer Time 23 September 2020

    Green 24, Byrom 7

50 up for Somerset as a back-foot drive from Ben Green goes flying off an outside edge through the gully fielder, who is Dan Lawrence.

Looked well past him before he even had chance to react to be fair.

Green ticking along now with three fours in his 24.

  4. Watch Wheater's catchpublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 23 September 2020

    Somerset 46-2

It really was some grab by Essex wicketkeeper Adam Wheater to get rid of Tom Abell a few overs ago...

    Green 20, Byrom 7

Ben Green picks up three and Eddie Byrom a couple off Aaron Beard as once again he goes a touch too full in length.

Scoreboard keeps ticking along for Somerset.

  6. Somerset 41-2published at 11:43 British Summer Time 23 September 2020

    Green 17, Byrom 5

So, which captain would feel the happier with this right now after 70 minutes play?

Essex have a couple of scalps after putting Somerset in, but the batsman have put away the bad ball when it's come along.

    Interesting opening session so far.

  7. 'Beard gets wickets down leg side'published at 11:39 British Summer Time 23 September 2020

    Ravi Bopara
Former Essex and England all-rounder on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

It did bounce a bit from a short length but you'll be shocked and surprised how often Aaron Beard gets wickets caught down leg side.

  8. Somerset 40-2published at 11:38 British Summer Time 23 September 2020

    Green 16, Byrom 5

Eddie Byrom the new man in for Somerset at number four and he is up and running almost immediately with a single and then a four through the legside down the slope.

Somerset need to rebuild once more.

    Breakthrough time again for Essex.

Great catch from Adam Wheater behind the stumps to dismiss Tom Abell.

It's looped up and hit him on what looks like the bat handle before ballooning into the air and Wheater dives full stretch to take it one-handed with his left glove just off the ground.

    Aaron Beard into the wickets.

  10. Somerset 30-1published at 11:33 British Summer Time 23 September 2020

    Green 15, Abell 15

Decent bit of inswing from Sam Cook after switching ends.

Ben Green leaves one outside off that just about misses the stumps to his surprise.

    Back-to-back maidens from Essex.

  11. Somerset 30-1published at 11:27 British Summer Time 23 September 2020

    Green 15, Abell 15

Better from Aaron Beard in his second over as he sends down a maiden to Tom Abell.

Some decent bounce as well in this surface from the Nursery End.

Looks like Sam Cook is going to switch ends meanwhile and have a go from the Pavilion End.

  12. Somerset 30-1published at 11:23 British Summer Time 23 September 2020

Jamie Porter back on the money and concedes just a single as Tom Abell nudges one into the offside.

  14. Somserset 29-1published at 11:18 British Summer Time 23 September 2020

    Green 15, Abell 14

Aaron Beard goes a touch full on leg stump to Ben Green and he whips him nicely away through backward square leg for four to the boundary in front of the Grand Stand.

Decent shot that. Something for Beard to ponder as he gets into his spell.

  15. 'A good tight contest'published at 11:16 British Summer Time 23 September 2020

    Vic Marks
Ex-England spinner on BBC Radio 5 live Sports Extra

It's a good tight contest, you can sense the nerves particularly in the Somerset camp and the weather is behaving itself.

  16. Somerset 25-1published at 11:14 British Summer Time 23 September 2020

    Green 11, Abell 14

Three more runs to Ben Green after another testing Jamie Porter over from the Pavilion End.

Good inswinging yorker off the last ball is just dug out by Green for a single down to long leg.

Time for our first bowling change - Aaron Beard is on for Sam Cook.

  17. Somerset 22-1published at 11:09 British Summer Time 23 September 2020

    Green 8, Abell 14

Edged from Tom Abell off Sam Cook but it lands just short of the waiting hands of Essex skipper Tom Westley at third slip.

Decent maiden over for the rest of it and we are through our first 10 overs.

  18. Somerset 22-1published at 11:05 British Summer Time 23 September 2020

    Green 8, Abell 14

Tom Abell fourImage source, Rex Features

Jamie Porter goes a touch too full on Tom Abell's pads and he whips him through the legside for four.

Backs it up with a nicely-taken single with a push into the offside.

Ben Green then gets in on the act with his first boundary of the morning, a handsome straight drive down to the famous Pavilion.

Somerset starting to settle a touch now.

  19. Somerset 12-1published at 11:02 British Summer Time 23 September 2020

    Green 3, Abell 9

Big leg before shout from Sam Cook against Tom Abell as one nips back in to the Somerset skipper.

Touch high probably and also may have been an iside edge judging from the two sounds that you could just about hear above the sound of building work in the background here at Lord's!

  20. Somerset 11-1published at 10:58 British Summer Time 23 September 2020

    Green 2, Abell 9

Another Jamie Porter maiden over backed up by some pretty impressive fielding from Essex with the odd diving stop in the inner circle.

That's three maidens in his first four overs.

Sam Cook continues at the other end meanwhile.
