    Green 10, Lammonby 20

The winds begin to howl once more around these empty Lord's stands.

    A touch haunting.

Plenty of "oohs" and "aaahs" from Sam Cook once again as he toils away, but there are more runs on offer for both Ben Green and Tom Lammonby.

Somerset just five runs behind now.

    Varun Chopra

In this situation a draw is no good for Somerset, they have to set Essex something.

    Cheers Gary,

Here's the latest view from the middle just before the bell is rung to signal five minutes before the restart.

It's lightly spitting out there, but if you were a club cricketer, you'd play through this happily all afternoon.

Off comes the hover cover as I type that very sentence.

  11. Postpublished at 13:15 British Summer Time 26 September 2020

Adam Williams is in place at Lord's to take you through the afternoon session.

Although the groundsmen appear to be hovering. What's in store Adam?

Marka27: Somerset have to score big and quickly so they can put Essex in with the hope of bowling them out.

Should make for a fascinating couple of sessions today.

Johnathan Crowe: Lifelong Essex fan here. Some may criticise the fact that whoever gets the first innings lead will win the trophy in the light of a draw. But Essex have had to score their highest BWT score to gain that lead. Highest previous score was 298.

Also, Essex have scored by far the highest total against Somerset this season (next highest was 200 all out), at an average of 42/wicket, and aggregate runs against Somerset was 1309 in 10 innings for 98 wickets, average 13.35/wkt. Pretty impressive from Essex.

Hard to argue when you lay the stats out like that.

  14. 'A very cagey session from both sides'published at 12:47 British Summer Time 26 September 2020

    Vic Marks
Ex-England spinner on BBC Radio 5 live Sports Extra

That was a very cagey session from both sides, Essex will be happy with the fact that they went past Somerset's 301 but they got a little lead of 30.

Somerset will be pleased in the sense that they've got 10 wickets there.

If the weather stays fine there's plenty of time to create a proper match rule result.

  15. rain stops play

Covers onpublished at 12:45 British Summer Time 26 September 2020

Somerset 12-0 (trail by 24) - lunch, day four

I said earlier that the rain might arrive during the lunch interval and they are in fact bringing on the covers.

The radar doesn't look overly promising with plenty of showers to the north of London.

    Somerset 301 & 12-0 v Essex 337-8

Simon Harmer speeds through a maiden and that's lunch.

A good little session for Somerset as they get through it unscathed.

They still trail by 24, but it's all set up for a push this afternoon.

  18. Somerset 12-0published at 12:38 British Summer Time 26 September 2020

    Green 4, Lammonby 8

Tom Lammonby guides Sam Cook down to the fine-leg boundary and the fielder can't get round. Four.

Another couple off the over, and Jamie Porter will get another one in before the lunch break.

In fact, Essex are turning to Simon Harmer for a bit of spin...

  19. Somerset 6-0published at 12:35 British Summer Time 26 September 2020

    Green 4, Lammonby 2

Ben Green gets off the mark with a boundary as he guides one from Jamie Porter past the slips.

Nowt else off the rest of the over except a shout for lbw which may have been a bit high.

Can Essex squeeze in another couple before lunch? Five minutes to go.

  20. Somerset 2-0published at 12:30 British Summer Time 26 September 2020
