It is a nightmare out there for England at the moment.

  4. Eng 8-1published at 3 overs

A strangled lbw appeal against Zak Crawley, Lasith Embuldeniya getting another one to creep on straight, is turned down, before the next ball rises and Crawley gloves it just short of the close fielders.

Sometimes with the new ball it does just skid on. There is natural variation. It did there.

England won't want to lose two or three here!

  7. Eng 8-1published at 2 overs

    Target 74

Now, that is much more like it, with Zak Crawley jumping on a short ball and thumping it for four.

The last ball of the over rises on Crawley and he just about nibbles it past Kusal Mendis, who takes another rap on his poor hand.

  9. dropped catch

    Will you stop it, England?!

I can't type quick enough! Dilruwan Perera whirls through and the outside edge bobbles in and then out of Dickwella's gloves. Nervy times.

Dilruwan Perera will share opening bowling duties.

That just came on with the arm. Perhaps it just skidded on. Sibley's trials against left-arm spin continue.

He will be disappointed. It was a nice opportunity to show he has a plan against the left-arm spinner.

    Gone!

You know how folk say there are good leaves and bad leaves? Yeah, that's a bad one. It straightens slightly from Lasith Embuldeniya, Dom Sibley stays in his crease with his bat raised, and his stumps are rattled.

    Well...

There is no need for England to knock them off tonight. It is not usual in Sri Lanka for it to rain all day.

Zak Crawley, and England, are off the mark.

You have to back England. It is still not a pitch you are going to blast someone out unless England get nervy. The experience is there.

I don't think there will be time to do it today.

We haven't seen much of Leach since Headingley in 2019. He had such a tough time of it.

He got better and better. The more you bowl the more rhythm you find. In this innings the England spinners have got better and better.
