    Middlesex 210 & 84-5 v Gloucs 273

Nick Gubbins is looking to give Middlesex something to bowl at.

The left-hander clips Matt Taylor through mid-wicket, aerially but safe enough, and then follows it with a punchy drive to the rope and a lovely cover drive.

He's up to 44 and Middlesex lead by 21.

  2. Scores levelpublished at 13:47 British Summer Time 8 May 2021

    Middlesex 210 & 63-5 v Gloucs 273

Middlesex have definitely avoided an innings defeat now as they bring the scores level.

Whatever their last five wickets can add from here, that'll be the target Gloucestershire are faced with.

  3. rain stops play

Play abandoned at Old Traffordpublished at 13:39 British Summer Time 8 May 2021

Lancashire 22-0 v Glamorgan 344 - no play Saturday, rain

    It's off at Old Trafford.

Hardly surprising with the rain still falling and plenty more to come.

Robbie White decides to leave an inswinger, appears to change his mind at the last second and prods the bat down, but the Middlesex batsman is too late.

    Middlesex are in tatters.

Middlesex nightwatchman Ethan Bamber flashes at one outside off stump and edges behind.

That's the Gloucestershire seamer's 28th wicket of the season.

    Middlesex 210 & 45-3 v Gloucs 273

Nick Gubbins has just taken 12 off David Payne's eighth over.

The first boundary is a bit streaky - a thick edge down to third man - but the left-hander follows it with a drive to the point rope and a lovely four straight down the ground.

Gubbins is up to 25 and the deficit 18.

  17. It's a bit damp!published at 10:51 British Summer Time 8 May 2021

You can probably take a quick glance out of your window or car windscreen to work this out, but it has been a very wet start to Saturday.

A lot of the rain that's swept in from the south west overnight is also set to hang around for most of the day in some areas so we could see a couple of abandonments.

Take a look at the full forecast below.

  18. Day three awaits (we hope)published at 10:50 British Summer Time 8 May 2021

    Headingley rainImage source, Rex Features

It's Saturday and the start of a bumper weekend of big, potentially season-defining sport across the BBC.

But it's in the balance just how much of a part the County Championship will play on this Super Saturday as the weather forecast is far from kind.

Should we get under way, we've got eight fixtures across the new three groups for this season entering their third day's and a few sides well-placed already to record a victory.
