    Northants 88-2 v Yorks 158

Northants have started day two well, hoping to put Yorkshire's meagre total into perspective.

By far and away their best player is Ricardo Vasconcelos and he's gone to his latest fifty.

Luke Procter is not with Northants today for personal reasons.

  2. rain stops play

Postpublished at 11:31 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

Lancashire v Kent - start delayed

More rain has arrived at Old Trafford. The players will take an early lunch at 12:30. Four sessions gone. Not a single ball bowled.

  3. wicket

WICKET Sibley c Eckersley b Potts 0published at 11:22 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

    Warwicks 12-1 v Durham

    What an absolute jaffa!

Matty Potts produces a magnificent leg-cutter which takes the edge and England's Dom Sibley is gone for an 11-ball duck.

Sibley did very little wrong there, his defensive stroke was tight, the delivery was just too good for him.

  4. Postpublished at 11:22 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

    Notts v Derbyshire 114-5

Two fours put away through the covers off the back foot in the same Joey Evison over and just like that Fynn Hudson-Prentice has overtaken partner Leus du Plooy. He has 29 not out from only 31 balls, and du Plooy is on 28.

  5. Postpublished at 11:19 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

    Hampshire 240-7 v Surrey

Surrey are keeping a check on the scoring so far this morning, but Hampshire are only 10 runs away from a second batting point. A single by Felix Organ off Rikki Clarke takes him into double figures and Colin de Grandhomme is 52 not out at the other end.

  6. Postpublished at 11:14 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

    Warwickshire 12-0 v Durham

Three overs gone at Edgbaston and England opener Dom Sibley has faced one delivery so far, which was a dot ball. Rob Yates has his second boundary, though, eased through the covers off Chris Rushworth with minimum fuss.

  7. 250 runs

up for Somersetpublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

    Somerset 257-7 v Leics

After Dean Conway helped Somerset to a tremendous start yesterday, Leicestershire fought back very well indeed.

A second batting point is raised for the home side.

Can one of their special lower-order rallies bring another point or two?

  8. Postpublished at 11:09 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

    Notts v Derbyshire 97-5

Joey Evison bowled four overs, all of them maidens, on day one - but a couple of singles from his opening over this morning 'spoil' his figures.

Luke Fletcher opens up from the other end and there is a glorious on-drive from Leus du Plooy for four. Seeing it well already.

  9. Postpublished at 11:09 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

    Sussex 163-8 v Glamorgan

An early wicket for Michael Hogan - to add to the two he took yesterday - that gives Glamorgan a great start to day two.

They'll hope to wrap that innings up quickly and deny Sussex any batting points.

  10. 50 runs

for Colin de Grandhommepublished at 11:05 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

    Hampshire 232-7 v Surrey

Not the best stroke he's ever played, but Colin de Grandhomme takes a single to third man off Ryan Patel and reaches his 50 off 80 balls. The New Zealander has hit seven fours so far in his innings, which has been a very important one for his side.

  11. Postpublished at 11:04 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

    Warwickshire 7-0 v Durham

Thought you might like to see a tweet Durham's Chris Rushworth posted on Sunday (below). Two days later, he has finally taken the new ball at Edgbaston but his second delivery was cut away by Rob Yates for the game's first boundary.

  12. Middlesex win toss and fieldpublished at 10:59 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

Gloucestershire v Middlesex (starts 11:00 BST)

Ah to one of the summer's gems with cricket back at Cheltenham College.

Middlesex have won the toss and have sent Gloucestershire in - the first time they've batted first in the Championship this summer.

Captain Chris Dent has a broken finger and Ryan Higgins' wife gave birth this morning so he's missing too.

Gloucestershire field two sets of brothers Jack and Matt Taylor and Ollie and Tom Price.

Middlesex hand debuts to Josh de Caires - son of Michael Atherton - and New Zealander Daryl Mitchell.

Gloucestershire: Scott, Hammond, Bracey, Lace, Phillips, J Taylor, O Price, T Price, M Taylor, Payne (c), Worrall

Middlesex: De Caires, Robson, Eskinazi, Handscomb (c), Mitchell, Simpson, Andersson, Sowter, Cullen, Bamber, Murtagh

  13. Extended day at Edgbastonpublished at 10:58 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

They are hoping to squeeze 104 overs into day two between Warwickshire and Durham after no play was possible yesterday.

Each session will last two hours and 10 minutes, weather permitting.

Just a reminder that Durham won the toss and put the home side in - so it's bowling and fielding duty first for Ben Stokes.

  15. Northants keen to avoid 'tricky' targetpublished at 10:53 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

    Northants 61-2 v Yorkshire 158 (match resumes 11:00 BST)

    Tom TaylorImage source, Getty Images

Wantage Road saw the most action on Sunday as Northamptonshire made an excellent start to their home game against Yorkshire.

The visitors chose to bat after winning the toss, but were bowled out in 64.3 overs on a previously used pitch as wickets were shared between six Northants bowlers, with Tom Taylor claiming 2-14.

"Just to try and get into the game, and try and get ahead in the game, I think it's easier to do that bowling sometimes. Early wickets are obviously crucial and we managed to get that," he told BBC Radio Northampton.

"We'd have preferred to bowl last on it, rather than bat last and try and chase a tricky number, but that's the situation we're in. Hopefully we can try and get ahead on first innings and if the game pans out as we'd like it, the second innings will be a small target."

Things have, however, cheered up a little since that tweet was posted and the umpires hope to inspect at 11:30 with a view to starting the match at mid-day.

  17. Jamieson 'niggle' disrupts debutpublished at 10:49 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

Hampshire 229-7 v Surrey (close of play on day one)

    Kyle JamiesonImage source, Rex Features

It was a disappointing Championship debut for New Zealand Test star Kyle Jamieson on day one at the Ageas Bowl.

Surrey have yet to confirm details of the problem which restricted him to six overs with the new ball after they put Hampshire in.

"It was a shame we couldn't see the big man in full flow. These things happen, people pick up little niggles. I don't know the severity of it," new ball partner Jordan Clark told BBC Radio London at close of play.

Clark led Surrey's attack by taking 4-59, but Jamieson's international team-mate Colin de Grandhomme will resume on 48 not out for Hampshire.

  18. Stokes and Anderson kept waitingpublished at 10:46 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

    Ben StokesImage source, Rex

It was a frustrating day on Sunday for England team-mates Ben Stokes and James Anderson, with no play possible at Edgbaston or Old Trafford.

All-rounder Stokes is set to play his first Championship game for three years for Durham, but after they won the toss and put Warwickshire in, rain kept them off the field all day.

They didn't even get as far as the toss further north as Anderson and the rest of the Lancashire squad waited in vain for their home game against Kent to begin.

It will be Anderson's third Championship of the season when the action finally gets under way.

  19. Weather outlookpublished at 10:43 British Summer Time 5 July 2021

A couple of contrasting tweets from BBC Weather this morning, but they offer hope of a more play than we saw at some of the grounds on the opening day.
