    Somerset v Nottinghamshire 213-6

New batsman Liam Patterson-White gets off the mark with a boundary, but is then struck on the helmet when he turns his back on a Tom Abell bouncer.

After growing through the necessary checks and protocols and getting a new helmet, Patterson-White is OK to continue.

WICKET Mullaney lbw b de Lange 42published at 17:06 British Summer Time 30 August 2021

    Somerset v Nottinghamshire 208-6

Things slowly start to shift Somerset's way as captain Steven Mullaney is on his way.

The extra pace of Marchant de Lange traps Mullaney with a delivery that probably would have gone on to hit leg stump.

Again though a Notts batsman is out after getting in, without going on to a substantial score.

At Grace Road, Kent were finally dismissed for 232 as Jack Leaning's 75 not out helped them add 68 for the last wicket before James Logan was run out.

    Leicestershire are 19-0 in reply.

And at Worcester, Sussex are 209-8 against Worcestershire. Jack Carson has a defiant unbeaten 54 while Joe Leach has 4-59.

Sam Hain does follow Chris Benjamin into three figures!

Hain reaches his 100 as he scampers a single off the part-time leg breaks of Luke Wells and takes his helmet off to acknowledge the applause for a deserved hundred.

It comes off 198 balls with 12 fours.

  6. Can Hain follow Benjamin to three figures?published at 16:48 British Summer Time 30 August 2021

    Lancashire v Warwickshire 213-2

Chris Benjamin has grabbed his century and Warwickshire have collected their first batting point, so now attention switches to partner Sam Hain.

Hain has moved into the nervous nineties as he looks for a first Championship hundred of the summer.

The partnership is now worth an imposing 206.

  7. wicket

WICKET Ballance c Weatherley b Dawson 42published at 16:36 British Summer Time 30 August 2021

    Hampshire v Yorkshire 138-5

    Yorkshire's key man is gone!

A first wicket of the day goes to spin as Gary Ballance gets an attempted lofted on-drive off Liam Dawson all wrong.

Joe Weatherley takes a smart catch diving across at midwicket as Ballance looked to have played his shot too early.

He departs for 42 after 119 balls of graft.

But Lyndon James has to go this time.

His stay at the crease is ended as Tom Abell tempts him to playing at one outside off-stump and with a hint of away swing, James can only feather it behind to Steven Davies.

  9. Postpublished at 16:35 British Summer Time 30 August 2021

    Somerset v Nottinghamshire 193-4

Half a chance for Somerset as Lyndon James aims a loose cut shot off Josh Davey, but it just flies out of the reach of Tom Lammonby at point.

It was a streaky shot which gets four, but it would have been a sensational catch.

However, it doesn't stop him and his captain Steven Mullaney bringing up a battling 50 partnership.

A glorious moment for Chris Benjamin on his Championship debut.

His hundred comes up off 194 balls with 10 fours and having come to the crease at 4-1, he really has shown his temperament.

Benjamin is one of the stories of the domestic summer. In the space of seven weeks, he has scored a fifty on his debut in both the T20 Blast and the One-Day Cup and now a maiden Championship ton on debut for the 22-year-old.

  11. ouch!

Postpublished at 16:28 British Summer Time 30 August 2021

    Lancashire v Warwickshire 195-2

Liam Livingstone launches into a desperate dive to prevent Chris Benjamin from gathering a boundary.

He stops the four but there is an audible shout from Livingstone as he hits the floor. He gets up clutching his shoulder and is gingerly helped up the pavilion steps by the Lancs physio.

We'll wait to see what the outcome is as it promises to be a busy few months for Livingstone with the World T20 in the UAE and Oman on the horizon with England.

Let's bring you up to speed with all the scores at the tea interval on this first day....

  16. Tea at Old Traffordpublished at 16:00 British Summer Time 30 August 2021

    Lancashire v Warwickshire 192-2

If the morning was even, the afternoon has been completely dominated by Warwickshire as they have added 114 runs from 34 overs without losing a wicket.

Chris Benjamin is now on 93 on debut, seven shy of a memorable century, while Sam Hain has struck some lovely fours in his way to 88.

The partnership is now worth 185 and it feels like a very long time ago since they were 7-2. This duo are building a platform for a very big first innings total for the visiting team.

  17. Gloom brings early interval at Lord'spublished at 15:58 British Summer Time 30 August 2021

Division Three: Middlesex 173-5 v Derbyshire

    Kevin Hand
    BBC Radio London at Lord's

Bad light has taken the teams off early for tea, but it will be of no great disappointment to Middlesex after a strong session.

There hasn't been a glimpse of blue all day and the lights have been on since the start where at 14-3 after four overs, the hosts looked to have dropped a clanger when electing to bat.

Since then only two wickets have fallen and Martin Andersson (53) notched up his first fifty of the season, while Robbie White (84 not out) has his fifth of the summer and is eyeing his maiden ton.

The ball has nipped about all day - seam and swing - so Derbyshire will be disappointed not to have rammed home the early advantage. However, it's the hosts who still have in the main to bail out their decision at the toss.

  18. Tea at Ageas Bowlpublished at 15:56 British Summer Time 30 August 2021

    Hampshire v Yorkshire 125-4

Another tough session for batting for Yorkshire who lost three wickets after lunch and continued to find runs hard to come by.

Gary Ballance (36 not out) has looked the most settled while Kyle Abbott (3-31) has three of the four wickets for the hosts.

  19. Tea at Tauntonpublished at 15:55 British Summer Time 30 August 2021

    Somerset v Nottinghamshire 172-4

An afternoon of real hard graft from both sides in the West Country, with it difficult to call who is on top.

Joe Clarke made a good 59, while Sam Northeast was solid for his debut 34, but both were prised out by the Somerset attack.

Lyndon James and Steven Mullaney have got stuck in and have added 32 as they look to take Notts to a competitive first-innings total.

  20. wicket

WICKET Brook b Wheal 13published at 15:41 British Summer Time 30 August 2021

    Hampshire v Yorkshire 114-4

Hampshire with another welcome wicket just before tea.

Brad Wheal gets his first of the match as Harry Brook looks to have inside-edged the ball on this own stumps when playing back.

Wheal delighted to get the breakthrough while Gary Ballance (33 not out) is joined by Dom Bess.
