    Lancashire 78 & 202-7 v Warwickshire 518

Tom Bailey brings up the 200 with a thumping drive off Manraj Johal. It feels worthy of mentioning after their dismal first innings effort.

A few more shots like that and Lancashire will avoid their worst ever innings defeat.

    Lancashire 78 & 197-7 v Warwickshire 518

Liam Norwell comes on at the Pavilion End and he really bends his back to extract some bounce from the pitch. One more effort this morning before a well deserved holiday!

There is a brief delay to the proceedings as a helmet is thrown down from the Warwickshire dressing room to bring in a short leg.

Norwell keeps Rob Jones honest, but the batter picks up a couple of runs.

    Well bowled Manraj Johal!

He squares Luke Wood up twice in the over, and then goes past the outside edge. Winning on points, Johal delivers the knockout blow by hitting the leg stump with an excellent full in-swinging delivery.

Rob Jones gets off the mark with a nice clip off his legs for four.

Then Luke Wood sends another one to the boundary with a powerful shot through midwicket. He's reached 25 from only 20 balls.

If he sticks around, we could have some fun this morning.

Ian Bell wonders whether it would be possible for the Bob Willis Trophy could become a Championship title decider in which the top two teams contest a final like Australia's Sheffield Shield.

Alex Hartley, meanwhile, suggests that the County Championship could simply be re-named the Bob Willis Trophy.

Craig Miles completes the two balls of his over by jagging one sharply over the top of Rob Jones' stumps.

Manraj Johal now to bowl from the Nursery End to Luke Wood. And the youngster extracts some bounce from his first ball to hit Wood in the ribs. Good morning Luke!

Johal then nips one past Wood's bat with an absolute beauty. This 19-year-old from West Bromwich and Dartmouth Cricket Club has a lot of promise.

Good response from Wood as he crashes the last ball of the over for four.

  13. Not the latest finishpublished at 10:23 British Summer Time 1 October 2021

    Lancashire 78 & 171-6 v Warwickshire 517 - play starts 10:30

So the county cricket season has reached October.

But even if the Bob Willis Trophy final has to go into a fifth day tomorrow, it still won't be as late an end to the season as last year.

In 2020, the T20 Blast quarter-finals took place on this date, with Finals Day following on 4 October.

It is, however, the latest first-class/red-ball cricket has been played in England since way back in the mists of time, when long beards were the fashion and club ties were used to keep trousers up.

  14. Balderson makes first London trip one to rememberpublished at 10:20 British Summer Time 1 October 2021

Lancashire all-rounder George Balderson has certainly been one of the breakout names on the county circuit with his performances with both bat and ball towards the back end of the campaign.

The former England under-19 captain, who turns 21 later this month, had never even been to London before this Bob Willis Trophy match, let alone play at Lord's.

The left-hander made a classy and elegant 65 off 131 balls with nine fours and told BBC Radio Lancashire: "It's amazing to be here at Lord's and while the situation in the match isn't ideal, it was nice to spend some time in the middle and put a score together.

"It's a special place to play and I sat down in the changing rooms the other day and took a bit of time to take in all the surroundings and the history."

  15. Norwell still 'on cloud nine' after title winpublished at 10:16 British Summer Time 1 October 2021

Is there such a thing as cloud 10? Warwickshire will find out if they wrap up victory over Lancashire in the Bob Willis Trophy today.

It's been a busy week for Bears seam bowler Liam Norwell who told BBC CWR at the end of day three: "We're still floating on cloud nine after winning the championship and I think that reflected in our bowling on the first morning.

"I had to go straight down to Cornwall for a wedding after winning the title last week and the only person really who I was able to chat to about it in the immediate aftermath was my wife, so it's still sinking in."

The 29-year-old added: "It's not often you go out to bowl second time with a lead of more than 400 so we've just got to keep putting in the hard yards and hope the weather allows us to take four more wickets, To win this trophy this week would just put the cherry on the season."

  16. Weather outlookpublished at 10:12 British Summer Time 1 October 2021

First the good news - if there is no further rain at Lord's, play will start on time at 10:30.

Here's BBC forecaster Kate Kinsella with a more detailed forecast.

  17. Good morningpublished at 10:09 British Summer Time 1 October 2021

Will this be the day the 2021 county cricket season comes to an end?

Will this be the day Warwickshire add the Bob Willis Trophy to the County Championship title they won last week?

The answer to these questions is, in the words of Mr Frederick Mercury, in the lap of the gods.

Welcome to our coverage of the fourth day's play at Lord's.
