Ah well. It is here I say goodbye. We tried.

The weather looks much better for the weekend and we'll be back at 10:30 BST tomorrow to take you through day four.

I'll leave you with the highlights from the match so far...

New Zealand will hope to quickly add to the two wickets they took on day two. If they do so, England will be in a tricky position where they cannot win the Test and are fighting for a draw.

For England to win you'd think they'd have to go big in the first innings, bat beyond the Black Caps and bowl them out on the final day.

  3. Postpublished at 16:39 British Summer Time 4 June 2021

There will be 98 overs tomorrow and on Sunday in a bid to make up some of today's lost overs.

Still, it's going to be a battle for either side to force a result.

Rory Burns and Joe Root will resume unbeaten on 59 and 42 respectively. England are 111-2, still 267 runs behind New Zealand.

    Well, that is that!

Play has been abandoned for the day at Lord's without a ball being bowled.

The players will be back tomorrow to try again at 11:00 BST.

The clouds are lifting and the rain is becoming lighter. Our radars suggest the rain should ease about now.

There are no puddles and Lord's has the best drainage in world cricket.

If we were to get out at 17:00 we could play until 19:00 - in theory until 19:30 to get the overs in.

It's getting towards the time optimists hoped the rain would stop, but the square is still hidden under the covers.

We're told we could start play as late as 18:00 BST so there's still a chance of some action.

Sadly the rain continues to fall at Lord's. There was a flurry of activity from the ground staff a few moments ago which briefly excited me but little has changed. The covers remain in place.

We'll have updates if the situation improves.

The covers are still firmly in place at Lord's. We have had no play this morning and none is imminent, although the forecast suggests an improvement later in the day.

We're going to take a breather but will be back with any updates throughout the afternoon.

There may not have been any play at Lord's but there has been plenty in the County Championship this morning.

The groundstaff are no longer out there. I can't tell if it's raining or not, but Ollie Pope has just walked back from the nets without an umbrella. He had one up on his way there, so I'm taking this to be a good sign.

Those groundstaff Stephan mentioned a few minutes ago have disappeared again. Lord's looks deserted.

When we do resume England will be on 111-2. Here are some of the highlights of their innings.

He's a clever man is Chris but can he name every England cricketer since 2000? I'd like to challenge him.

I once went on Eggheads. Jeremy Vine appeared to take my piano silver medal in a Cambridge music festival (as an 11yr old) as proof of some sort of broad musical credentials. Needless to say, after an unwarranted, big build up, I got one question about Robbie Williams right and then was unceremoniously knocked out by railway-enthusiast, Chris.

    Promising if unexpected.

The groundstaff may be out but there cannot be play before 13:40 BST because of the lunch break.

It may have stopped raining. Groundstaff have emerged with brushes that make it look they are about to have a game of curling.

I once went on the Australian edition of ready steady cook. To make my application more interesting I said I liked peanut butter, jam and vegemite sandwiches. Although the host mentioned it on the show they luckily didn't bring one out for me to eat.
