Mandhana will get all the plaudits, rightly so, but Brave were on it with the ball and in the field today...

Hero of the match Smriti Mandhana on Sky Sports: "I thought the wicket was slow but it was actually a good wicket to bat on. I took three or four balls to take a look then played my shots.

"It's all about the fielders and bowlers as well who did great for us. These girls have been together for a while for the Southern Vipers and they have welcomed me a lot.

"The last two games we have batted, bowled and fielded very well. The whole team has been great."

It's a great start for Southern Brave and it's all about momentum for them now. Every win is important, but every loss isn't the end of the world. At the top of the ladder is where you want to be.

Smriti Mandhana had a kind of smirk on her face that she wanted to finish it quickly and in style. Well batted, you are the hero of the match. Don't underestimate how much her team-mates around her will have learned from watching, rubbing shoulders and playing with and against them.

    Brave 112-2

And there's that one shot! Smriti Mandhana does it in style with a huge six down the ground - she even stops and admires the shot afterwards.

Southern Brave beat Welsh Fire by 8 wickets with 16 balls left.

  8. Brave 106-2published at 17 balls left

    Need 5 from 16 balls

Mandhana comes down the wicket to Bryony Smith to meet the ball on the full and smashes it through the off side for four.

Brave are just one shot away now.

  9. Brave 101-2published at 20 balls left

    Need 10 from 20 balls

It's been a really good knock form Mandhana, she's punished the bad balls and taken the ones and twos.

The 100 is up for Brave.

And a push into the off side brings up Mandhana's half-century. She almost reluctantly raises her bat to acknowledge the applause of her team-mates watching on, she'll want to see this through to the end.

The Southern Brave top four are all world-class players. It's a bit unfair on the other teams! Welsh Fire need to get rid of these two very quickly if they are to have any chance at all. Low totals can be tricky to chase, but this partnership looks to to be a match-winning one.

Mandhana and Taylor happy to exchange the singles, before a misfield allows Mandhana to reach 49.

It's slightly disappointing that Welsh Fire don't seem to want to apply much pressure to the Southern Brave batters. The Fire need to bring up mid-on and mid-off up and bowl the ball into the pitch and try to squeeze some dot balls.

  14. Brave 93-2published at 30 balls left

    Need 18 from 30 balls

Welsh Fire are running out of ideas here as Piepa Cleary returns to the attack. Stafanie Taylor kindly welcomes here with a powerful swat down to the long-on boundary.

  15. Brave 85-2published at 35 balls left

Welsh Fire captain Sophie Luff turns back to the spin of Bryony Smith in search of some magic.

But it's wicketkeeper Sarah Taylor who almost opens up a box of tricks by whipping off the bails and appealing for a stumping. The TV umpire quickly gives the not out but it's another piece of quick glovework for arguably one the best 'keepers to play the game.

  16. Brave 78-2published at 40 balls left

A single to end the set of five.

Mandhana is on 41 from 26 balls, she'll be eyeing up that half-century.

  17. Brave 77-2published at 41 balls left

    Need 34 from 41 balls

Nicole Harvey bowls on Mandhana's pads and the opener is down on one knee to help it to the square-leg boundary. Eaaaaasssy as you like.

Welsh Fire take a strategic timeout. They need it.

  18. 6 runs

Brave 73-2published at 44 balls left

The only person catching this is the steward behind the bowler's arm as Mandhana frees her arms and launches down the ground for six.

These two players, Stafanie Taylor and Smriti Mandhana are the dream team for Southern Brave. It's a simple equation for them and provided they don't allow Welsh Fire to apply pressure they should have the quality to get the job done.

  20. Brave 64-2published at 45 balls left

You have to say, it's been two poor shots rather than overly threatening bowling which has cost Brave their two wickets

Tidy five balls from Hennessy, just three runs conceded.
