She wanted to go for the big heave and with the new ball it can often skid, rather than turn, and that is exactly what happened.

It was a good option, but the shorter format means you can play shots that can sometimes work, and sometimes they won't.

    Dattani c Russell b Smith 8 (Spirit 13-1)

    And Linsey Smith strikes!

A bit of a hoick from Naomi Dattani, trying to sweep her way to another boundary, but the ball flies off the top of the bat and lands comfortably in the hands of Liz Russell.

Left-arm spinner Linsey Smith is on to bowl her first set of five.

It is another wonderful shot. It was a bit wide, but she found the gap perfectly, and every boundary is going to put pressure on Northern Superchargers because they haven't got a massive total here. They will need wickets.

  5. Spirit 13-0published at 90 balls left

    114 runs needed

Short, wide, and pummeled for four by Tammy Beaumont! That's a cracker of a shot.

There is nothing better than a front foot drive back past the bowler. This is just exquisite. What a shot.

  7. Spirit 8-0published at 93 balls left

Tammy Beaumont plays a dinky little tap around the corner to get her first run, before Naomi Dattani absolutely thwacks the ball over bowler Liz Russell's head for four!

Good ducking from the umpire, too, to avoid getting a nasty whack.

London Spirit just need to be sensible here, but to try and make the most of these 25 balls. If they can get to 35 I think that will still do the job.

They just need someone to put their hand up.

  9. Spirit 3-0published at 95 balls left

    124 runs needed

England opener Tammy Beaumont can't get herself off the mark from her first two deliveries.

  10. Spirit 2-0published at 98 balls left

The second ball is whipped away nicely by Naomi Dattani, and only a good bit of sprawling, relay fielding down on the boundary rope stops her picking up four.

    Rodrigues is only 20 too!

She's got a very bright future ahead of her.

How good was Jemimah Rodrigues in that innings?

In fact, how good has she been in the tournament so far?

Her 57 today now means she has scored 223 runs in the tournament in just four innings. She came into the competition after really struggling for India against England too.

  19. 'We thought 115-120 would be a good score'published at 16:13 British Summer Time 3 August 2021

Northern Superchargers' Jemimah Rodrigues talking to Sky Sports: "It is a not an easy wicket, it is slightly on the slower side, and it is a used wicket so it will only get slower from here. We thought anywhere from 115-120 would be a good score, so we've got to start well with the ball and look to get dot balls.

"Initially I had no timing, so I had to get myself in and then go for the shots. I knew I could make it up, and if I was there we could get an extra 20 runs at the end.

"I am loving this competition. I am striking the ball well and I just want to continue."

Superchargers have ran really well today and we haven't always seen that in this competition. Laura Kimmince, to the last ball, was down and back straight away. Coming up against batting line-up like Spirit that might be low on confidence, we could be in for a good second half.
