  1. Post update

There is still hope the men's game can happen. That is scheduled to begin at 19:00 BST.

The sun is back out so, if there is no further rain, there is chance of the outfield drying in time.

Follow that game with us here from 18:45.

  2. BreakingMatch abandoned

    Ah.

    There we have it.

This match from the women's Hundred has now officially been abandoned because of the rain.

  3. It's raining

    Wouldn't you know it...

Just as we get a scheduled start time the rain starts falling again.

We have to be playing by 17:43 BST so this may be curtains.

I think the Rockets might be favourites in a shortened-game actually. They've got big hitters at the top of the order and they've got experienced bowlers.

    Chris Green

Middlesex all-rounder on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

I'm a bit confused. One of the umpires has had her umbrella up the whole time, but the players have been out playing football, and a lot of the crowd haven't moved the whole time.

I'm excited. I hope we get a start. I think it will be something like a 30-ball game, and I think there will be big shots which is what we're here to see. It will be fast.

  6. Play to start at 17:30 BST

    News!

If there is no further rain we will start at 17:30 BST.

It will be a significantly reduced game.

  7. Post update

The umpires are chatting to the two captains with Rob Bailey pointing towards some dark clouds behind one stand. The larger covers are coming back on again.

    It's not looking good.

  8. 'I'd love to see double headers continue'

    Heather Knight

London Spirit captain on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

It will be really interesting to see what they do with the competition next year – I think there are some big decisions coming up.

They are only double headers because of Covid – they were due to be at slightly smaller grounds who have traditionally supported women’s cricket very well. There are a few decisions to make about whether they revert to that model, hopefully post Covid, but you never know.

The double headers have been so successful, I’d love to see them continue.

The only issue is the smaller grounds – growing up in Plymouth, the nearest ground for me would be Cardiff which is a long way to go, so I am a little bit torn about the success that we’ve had in the double headers because of the crowds we’ve got and also getting cricket into different parts of the country. We can’t dispute the success of the double headers.

  9. Post update

Really interesting comments from England captain Heather Knight there.

There was lots of discussion around whether double-headers would work in this tournament but crowds for the women's games have been excellent.

  10. 'We haven't felt like second-class citizens'

    Heather Knight

London Spirit captain on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

The tournament shows that if the product is marketed properly then people will come. Hopefully off the back of this tournament England women can play a game at The Oval, Lord's or Old Trafford on a Friday or Saturday night. It would be nice if the next marketed thing was that. It feels like the next logistical step.

I had doubts over the double headers, and whether we'd feel like second-class citizens, but it hasn't felt like that at all. This has come at a really good time for women's cricket.

  11. What happened on Saturday?

    Miss the action yesterday? Well...

Two of Southern Brave's youngsters, Sophia Dunkley and Lauren Bell, impressed again as the Brave beat Northern Superchargers to stretch their lead at the top.

In the battle of the top two, Dunkley, 23, smashed 50 not out off 28 balls, while 20-year-old Bell took 2-19.

  12. Post update

The Oval crowd are cheering now as some - not all - of the covers are taken back off. It's like the hokey cokey.

This women's match has to finish before the scheduled start of the men's game (19:00 BST) so we are losing a fair bit of time here.

  13. Post update

I have bad news. The covers are coming back on.

  14. Post update

There are players lingering around but no full-scale warm-ups. We've had no word yet from the umpires. They're still inspecting.

  15. Post update

The chat on our radio coverage of this game (click the audio icon above to listen) has turned to the battle between the Bryce sisters we'll hopefully see today.

Kathryn Bryce is in the Trent Rockets line-up while her younger sister Sarah will play for the Invincibles.

Umpires have been more willing to just get playing in The Hundred. That is a great thing for the tournament.

I hate these sort of games as a captain. Normally you have plans, and it is a frantic game anyway, but this makes it even more frantic. I'm looking forward to see how the captains use their bowlers.

  17. Post update

There's lovely blue sky above The Oval now with the sun shining. There groundstaff are still trying to clear some of the water from the outfield.

    Frustrating.

We're into the crunch time of the competition now. All of the teams will want to get momentum through their results.

  19. Post update

A glance at the weather forecast is not too encouraging but we'll keep our fingers crossed.

The brilliant thing about tournaments like The Hundred is that you unearth players like Alice Capsey. If she does end up playing for England she will be ready because of the scrutiny of tournaments like this.
