  1. NZ 6-2published at 3 overs

    Target 185

In comes Maddy Green for the tourists and is off the mark with a single. Brunt - bowling with the intensity which we have become so accustomed to over the years - isn't giving away any cheap runs.

Just two from the over and the wicket.

Callum needed a lie down after live texting boundary after boundary earlier - I already feel like that after three overs.

That's the big two for New Zealand, back in the hutch. It looked as though Suzie Bates was expecting an away-swinger, but it looked like a cross-seamer. They're in a lot of trouble now.

  3. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 2.2 overs

    Bates b Brunt 1 (NZ 4-2)

Both openers go early! It's a cross-seam delivery from Katherine Brunt which clatters into Suzie Bates' leg stump.

This could become a really ugly scorecard for New Zealand.

This is a strong England fielding unit. They've worked very hard with Michael Bates, the fielding coach [and ex-Hampshire and Somerset wicketkeeper] who came in a few years ago and they've improved so much.

  5. NZ 4-1published at 2 overs

Amy Satterthwaite is the new batter in. Farrant goes wide of the off stump and the batter creams it, but Danni Wyatt fields exceptionally well.

    A wicket-maiden for Farrant.

It's always good when you see someone come back after a spell in the wilderness to play for England again, as Tash Farrant has done. She was very good for Oval Invincibles in The Hundred, and I always like a left-arm over bowler!

  8. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 1.4 overs

    Devine lbw b Farrant 2 (NZ 4-1)

Not plumb but out! TV replays show the ball would have gone on to hit enough of the leg stump for it to be given on umpire's call.

Farrant picking up from where she left off in The Hundred, and the job has just got much more difficult for the tourists.

That left-arm angle, swinging back in... it looks pretty "out" to me

  10. NZ reviewpublished at 20:08 British Summer Time 1 September 2021

Farrant strikes! Or has she? Devine is trapped lbw. Given out and it looks pretty plumb to me, but New Zealand review.

Suzie Bates hasn't played for the best part of a year because of shoulder surgery, so the odds are against the Kiwis, but this is T20 cricket after all.

  12. NZ 4-0published at 1.2 overs

Tash Farrant - who absolutely smashed it in The Hundred - to bowl the second over of the innings.

A tidy line straight away, on the off stump, before an inswinger beats a wild swing from Devine.

  13. How's stat?!published at 20:05 British Summer Time 1 September 2021

    Andy Zaltzman
    Cricket statistician on BBC Two

Suzie Bates is the leading run scorer in international T20s - in both men's and women's cricket - with 3301 runs. Second on that list is India men's captain Virat Kohli.

  14. NZ 4-0published at 1 over

    Target 185

The power play will be so important for New Zealand but they struggle to get away the experienced Brunt. Both openers are off the mark but just four from the opening over.

It is nice to see Sophie Devine and Suzie Bates back at the top of the New Zealand order, or the Smash Sisters as they call themselves.

  16. Postpublished at 20:02 British Summer Time 1 September 2021

England - and in particular Katherine Brunt - were practicing their boundary relay catches in training last night.

Could come in handy tonight with the power of New Zealand openers Sophie Devine and Suzie Bates.

On the money from Brunt - a dot ball to begin.

The players are already out in the middle. Katherine Brunt has the ball in hand. Sophie Devine on strike.

    The chase is on.

  19. Knight hopes momentum is taken from The Hundredpublished at 20:01 British Summer Time 1 September 2021

We know that England captain Heather Knight is not playing tonight through a hamstring but earlier in the week, she spoke about hoping that the success of The Hundred will draw larger crowds for this Twenty20 series against New Zealand.

The tournament opener was the most-watched women's TV match in the UK, and 267,000 fans , externalattended games, a record for a women's competition.

"It's about now trying to transfer those fans to coming more regularly," said Knight.

"With those events that are really well supported, it's making sure you transfer this all year round.

"A lot can be taken into the women's international game. I'd like to see the same marketing budget."

    Thanks, Callum.

    Total domination from England.

New Zealand have never chased more than 152 to win a T20 match.
