West Indies captain Kieron Pollard: "That is the sort of blueprint that we asked to guys to come and show. I am very happy for them. Winning games is rarity for us and to see the guys finish it off and finish not out is fantastic.

"Sheldon [Cottrell] showed his quality and Jason [Holder] always steps it up on his ground - he was phenomenal. The guys then really backed it up in the field and they really put on a show today.

"We have really worked hard, and yes it is the first of five, but winning games is not easy as all."

England captain Eoin Morgan: "It was the opposite conditions to what we played on two or three days ago in the warm-up game. They dominated the game. We didn't seem to adapt well enough in running and that is what you have to do when you are challenged with a bit of movement and bounce. We'll have to come back with a fresh game plan tomorrow and tackle it head on because conditions could be very similar.

"We spoke pre-game about there being more bounce. We found it tricky today that it wasn't consistent but we found the balance between risk and reward difficult today. Hopefully we'll do that better tomorrow.

"You get tested and exposed in international cricket. I'll be encouraging them to stay positive."

Man of the match Jason Holder, who took 4-7: "It feels good to perform for the team. The last series against Ireland was a tough series and I wasn't happy with my performance but it is good to bounce back in this manner and we always speak in the changing room about tackling adversity face on.

"We had the perfect day to be honest. There isn't much I can pinpoint that we did wrong. The challenge for us is backing it up."

I couldn't agree more, Daniel. The fact I've managed to stay awake to live text that is a miracle in itself.

Tomorrow's game has to be better, surely?

West Indies won with 17 balls to spare in the end.

Brandon King finishes unbeaten on 55 and Nicholas Pooran made 27.

What's the one thing you want after a heavy defeat?

The chance to redeem yourself, right?

Well, England will have just that. The second game in the series is at 20:00 GMT on Sunday.

    There we are.

An absolutely thrashing for England and a comfortable victory for West Indies.

They take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

WI 101-1, need three to win

    Well batted, Brandon King.

He reaches his second T20 international half-century from 47 balls with four fours and one six.

    Four more.

Slower ball from Saqib Mahmood and Brandon King just waits for it before slapping it to the cover boundary.

One hit is all it needs...

    Shot!

Saqib Mahmood is back on, and absolutely stacks it in his follow through, and Nicholas Pooran cuts for first ball for four.

    Single figures required...

West Indies are just playing risk-free cricket to get over the line.

They take six runs from Tymal Mills' third over. He's 0-19 from three so far.

England's pace bowlers haven't had anywhere near the impact that West Indies' did on this pitch. Kieron Pollard did say he thought batting would be easier under lights and it has definitely played out like that.

Adil Rashid is done for the day. West Indies take four from this final over and he finishes with 1-21.

I've missed the start of Match of the Day quite comfortably in the end. West Indies have gone about this in a sensible, if not rather dull, manner.

Steve: Good to get this warm-up game out of the way. Looking forward to the T20 series starting tomorrow.

  17. WI 81-1published at 14 overs

    Need 23 from 36 balls

Decent comeback from Tymal Mills, conceding just two singles off the remaining five balls of the over.

Mills will want to impress in this series. He did well when he came into the side for the World Cup but he is by no means a guaranteed pick at this stage.

I like the look of Brandon King. He cuts the ball with magical, serene savagery.

  19. WI 79-1published at 13.1 overs

    Need 25 from 41 balls

Tymal Mills comes back on for England and he offers Brandon King a little bit of width.

The West Indies opener climbs into it and cuts away for four. A half-century is in the offing for King.

  20. WI 75-1published at 13 overs

    Need 29 from 42 balls

Eight runs from Chris Jordan's and West Indies are cruising towards a 1-0 lead in this five-match series.

Could they get a bit of a move on, though? I've just realised I've still got to make my bed when this is over...
