On Ewan in Manchester's point (15.36), I would say that Shane Warne having a highest test score of 99 having had a slog off a Daniel Vettori no ball is completely in line with how he lived his life. No compromise and no fear of consequences. Why we loved him so much deep down despite his panto villain status at various points in his career.

You can make that back-to-back fours in the over. Crawley is down low and sweeps to the fine-leg boundary.

    Ten from the over.

Time for spin as Veerasammy Permaul turns his arm for the first time today

His first delivery is cut through point by Crawley for two. Permaul corrects his line with one which straightens into the stumps. And then he bowls a stinking delivery - short and wide - which Crawley smashes through backward point for four. Yuck.

Biggest cricketing robbery? Michael Atherton declaring when Graeme Hick was on 98 in the 1995 Sydney Test must be up there.

This is exactly why we need DRS in the game, Steve.

Root plays a streaky one-handed pull down to fine leg to bring up England's 50. Crawley then shows his skipper how it's done with a more convincing pull for another single.

The partnership is now worth 27 off 59 balls and England trail by just 13 runs.

My dad giving me out LBW from my sister's bowling. It was missing the stumps by miles. Happened 35 years ago but she still reminds me. Will get over it one day.

Now then! There's not too much happening out there for the bowlers but Joe Root is almost outdone by some uneven bounce from Jayden Seales. The ball whistles past at ankle height.

Crawley plays a textbook off-drive for four. A bit uppish, perhaps, but it races through to the boundary.

"In summer 1971"... all stories should start with the season followed by the year.

A change in bowling as Alzarri Joseph is introduced. A full delivery is drilled by Zak Crawley towards mid-on. Absolutely middled. But Kemar Roach fields well.

In summer 1971, I gave out my maths teacher, Brian Honey, lbw to a speedy delivery from the English teacher, in the teachers' single wicket competition. I had no idea where the ball was going - sorry Brian. In my defence, I was only in the first year and was intimidated by the bowler's very aggressive appeal.

    Trail by 23 runs

Jayden Seales bangs it in short and Zak Crawley helps the ball along its way to the fine-leg boundary. A bit top-edgy but a calculated risk.

Crawley moves to 27 with Joe Root on seven.

Probably not the biggest cricket robbery ever but it definitely doesn't feel right - the late, great Shane Warne famously out on 99 from a Daniel Vettori no-ball? He certainly deserved a Test match century or two.

Ouch! Jason Holder has one rising sharper than the current fuel prices and Crawley, looking to leave, is struck on the stomach.

The England opener winces for a second but shrugs it off and then crunches a ball through the leg side for a boundary. 'Ard as nails.

I have so many questions, Alfred. Did he and his wife reconcile? Did he find out who stole the motor? And did he come out to bat later in the day?

A player in our village cricket team got thrown out of his house by his wife. He drove his car full of all his possessions to the match. We were fielding first and from mid-wicket he watched someone steal his car and drive off with all his stuff. A bad day and surely the biggest robbery in cricket history.

Roach had Root's number in the first innings. The England captain shouldered his arms and was bowled leaving the ball.

Bit of an outside the box one this but England v Pakistan in the UAE 2015-16 1st Test. Game was heading for a bore draw until Rashid skittled the lower order and gave England around 100 to chase on the final evening. If I remember correctly they got extremely close before the umpires made an extremely questionable bad light call.

Jason Holder is such a terrific cricketer. The seamer has one springing off the turf and into Crawley's pads.
