When the ball is going around the park as it was in the second part of that innings, you feel like you're chasing your tail. We have to give compliments to the England seamers - they stuck to their task - but Australia have a humungous lead.

  2. wicket

Head b Wood 154 (Aus 427 all out)

Gone this time. Full and straight from Mark Wood. The ball thuds into middle stump.

Travis Head goes for 152 from 148 balls. He was helped by facing some weary bowlers last night but that's a fine knock.

    Over to the England batters.

  4. Aus 425-9published at 104 overs

    Lead by 278

Justin Langer is beaming as he applauds Head's 150. It wasn't a straightforward selection for Australia with Usman Khawaja also in contention for the number five slot but it has absolutely come off.

Lunch is at 2am UK time. Burns and Hameed may end up with an awkward period to bat here.

It's go-time. Every single ball he'll try to hit for six.

That's a really outstanding 150. He's really played for the team.

The run map shows Travis Head scored 151 with 4 sixes, 15 fours, 4 threes, 8 twos, and 34 singles for Australia

There it is! Travis Head knew he might be running out of time and smashes the first ball of Leach's over for four.

You never want to properly injure someone, but if Wood were to hit Hazlewood on the gloves, the England batters would be quite happy.

  9. Aus 420-9published at 103 overs

    Head 147, Hazlewood 0

The Aussies have done this often enough to England batters in recent years so they can't complain. Hazlewood defends his throat just about with a mix of glove and bat handle.

Travis Head might not have long to get his 150.

  10. Aus 420-9published at 01:03 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2021

Number 11 Josh Hazlewood isn't going to get many around his toes from Wood.

That's reward for Wood. He's kept charging in and kept his pace high.

He clothed it. Lyon knew what was coming.

  13. wicket

WICKETpublished at 01:01 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2021

    Lyon c Robinson b Wood 15 (Aus 420-9)

Mark Wood doesn't even muster a smile in celebration but he deserves this. Nathan Lyon tries another ugly swipe to a bouncer but only chips up the simplest of catches.

    One to go.

ME: I love Lyon as a lower order bat. He's rather good at getting a single, which is the plan when you've still got one of the top six with you.

  15. dropped catch

Lyon dropped on 11published at 01:00 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2021

Urgh. A swipe, a top-edge, a one-handed drop by Jos Buttler leaping behind the stumps.

Spinners don't like getting out to each other, but also love trying to hit each other for six.

Change the kits and you would think this was a T20. The field is spread and Travis Head is flicking Jack Leach over his shoulder as Jos Buttler hops around behind the stumps trying to pull off a worldie.
