It looks like Australia are now ramping up the intent to Joe Root, as they did against Jack Leach in the last Test.

It looks like Australia are now ramping up the intent to Joe Root, as they did against Jack Leach in the last Test.
Australia really don't like English spinners.
If you're just waking up in the UK, good morning!
David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne are digging in, having reached lunch at 45-1.
England have bowled well, if a bit short. Marcus Harris was the only wicket to fall, thanks to a stunner from Jos Buttler.
Though Buttler has just dropped an easier - if still not straightforward - chance to remove Labuschagne for 21.
The big talking points came before a ball was even bowled, with Australia captain Pat Cummins ruled out after being deemed a close contact of a positive Covid-19 case while out at a restaurant last night.
That means Steve Smith returns to captaincy duties for the first time since the ball-tampering scandal in 2017.
Broad and Anderson return to England's bowling attack while Jack Leach misses out.
England don't have a single slip as Stokes continues to slam the ball into the middle of the pitch. Warner looks like he's been stung by a wasp as he dodges one, playing it very uncomfortably, but the rest cause the opener little trouble.

Steve Finn having an Australia 1999 shirt is like an England football fan wearing a Maradona shirt.

It's steady accumulation in this Root over.
The cameraman is zooming in on Jos Buttler at every opportunity. That drop has wiped out the credit of this great catch earlier...

I wonder if Australia will try to go after Joe Root like they did with Jack Leach at the Gabba?
Salt meet wound...
David Warner drives the first ball of a new Joe Root spell for four.
England were bowling for exactly that scenario. The field was spread with catchers in funny places and Stokes banging the ball in. They can't afford to miss all of these chances.

Looking at the body language, I'm saying that's a chance. And it was exactly what they were bowling for.
The plan should have worked! Marnus Labuschagne gloves a pull down the leg side but the leaping Jos Buttler drops the catch. It wasn't easy, high above Buttler's head, but one he'd expect to take.
It was far easier than the one Buttler caught earlier.

If you came down from Mars and saw this field, you'd think the score was 300-1 as opposed to 61. It's a very strange tactic to go to so early.
Warner 30, Labuschagne 21
On Finny admitting to treachery, I wore my team's rival's football shirt to a Uni lecture after losing a Fifa bet. Another bad day. If you have any similar examples or times you've idolised the enemy like Finny then text 81111 or tweet #bbccricket.
Ben Stokes is coming on.

That's good bowling. Robinson had been plugging away on that off stump and just surprised him with the short ball.
Almost! Marnus Labuschagne has struggled against the short stuff today and now he miscues a pull inches over Stuart Broad diving at square leg. That's a win for the bowler Robinson.
Yes, yes you have, Finny. Has anyone got any similar stories of treachery? I was told I owned a Man Utd shirt when I was very young...

It's so surreal for me to be here with Glenn McGrath in the back of the box. He was literally my childhood hero, posters on the wall type stuff.
I even had an Australia shirt from the 1999 World Cup. Did I just admit that on national radio?
Warner 29, Labuschagne 17
I'm just throwing this out there... After deciding not to pick a spinner, could England have picked an extra batter instead of Chris Woakes in this game? If four seamers can't do the job will the fourth?
Here's that Warner drive from a couple of overs ago...

England are going to have to be proactive here to find wickets. The batters look comfortable and without Mark Wood to add that element of difference, they've got to find a bit of diversity in their attack.
Too short?
Ollie Robinson bowls his fourth maiden in seven overs. He has been good again but, if I am being honest, without the threat he carried in Brisbane.
I wonder how loudly England's batters cheered this morning when they found out Pat Cummins had been ruled out of this match. Josh Hazlewood is also missing, of course.
