Forgot to mention that England's 100 came up during that over. The sun beams down on a very flat Adelaide pitch and it looks absolutely lovely.
I hope Nathan Lyon has got sun cream on his head, though.

Root is just a very good player. He is a busy player. You always like watching him bat because he is always looking to score runs and doesn't let a bowler settle for too long.
Another backfoot punch from Root brings him four thanks to a misfield at cover from Nathan Lyon.
I don't even need to describe the shot to you. You know how it goes. It's perfect.
Another lbw appeal on Root, this time he misses a sweep from Lyon. This one looks a lot closer to me than the last, but they don't review and the umpire looks at Lyon as if to say, dream on, mate.

Now then. Michael Neser thinks he has Root lbw, but the umpire isn't convinced. Steve Smith agrees to a review, but Root just leans on his bat nonchalantly.

It has been a really calm innings. Malan has shown what a good selection it was to bring him back into the side.
A very calm and collected innings from England's number three.
A classic Test innings of rotating the strike and punishing the bad ball. Root shakes his hand and nods as if to say, well done, but keep going.
Singles. Lots of singles.
Malan keeps the strike from the final ball as he drives to Cameron Green at cover. They're able to run mainly because he has such a long way down to the ground to field it.

Malan edges Neser but safely, the ball dropping in front of Steve Smith at slip who pulls off a very dramatic stop, spinning around on his knees like a child at a school disco.
The same batter drives straight down the ground for two to complete another productive over.
