  1. Aus 17-0published at 6 overs

David Warner helps himself to a boundary as he leans into a glorious cover drive off Stuart Broad that pings off the bat.

Remember when the prospect of Broad bowling to Warner was so exciting and we were full of hope? Just two days ago? Yeah. That stings.

  2. Aus 13-0published at 5 overs

    Lead by 250

England must be thinking about what could've been.

Realistically they should still be batting just a few wickets down and not too far behind Australia's first innings total.

Gareth Airdrie: These day-night Tests are dreadful. It means we all have to watch them thrash us rather than just wake up to it.

  4. Aus 11-0published at 4 overs

England's bowlers are trying hard and getting some swing but it must be so difficult for them from this position.

It's a good time to bowl, under lights with a new ball, but Australia are just brimming with confidence.

  5. Aus 8-0published at 3 overs

    Lead by 245

Anderson gets through another over that causes David Warner little alarm. He is yet to score from 12 balls but as we learned in the first innings, that won't bother him at all.

  6. Postpublished at 10:30 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December 2021

Stuart Broad had a little bit of fun with the bat at the end of England's innings but there wasn't much else he could do before he was the last wicket to fall.

  7. Aus 6-0published at 2 overs

There's no pressure on Australia really, except perhaps Marcus Harris. He could do with a score, and he gets off the mark by clipping Stuart Broad off his pads for the first runs off the bat.

Buttler looks shellshocked, like a man down on confidence. His footwork isn't of a natural keeper.

  10. Aus 4-0published at 1 over

The lead grows as Anderson gets one to jag back in sharply to Warner but it skims off his thigh pad for four past a diving Jos Buttler.

  11. Aus 0-0published at 0.1 overs

A little bit of swing for Anderson first ball. He's bowling to David Warner.

Australia have a lead of 237.

Today is inexcusable. It was the most perfect day for batting.

To those of you who may have missed the first session this morning, the pitch is not a minefield. It's not a road either, and Nathan Lyon did get some spin, but it is not a 236 all out pitch by any means.

It's a pitch that Test match batters should easily be able to score runs on, especially when the sun was shining and the ball not swinging. And there was no Pat Cummins or Josh Hazlewood in the attack.

England bowlers don't get a rest. Looking at Robinson loosen up, he sent one down at my pace.

England's bowlers are warming up, the fielders taking catches and trying to look positive.

I know I keep saying it but imagine the fury of the seamers. Their legs must still be in agony from day one, let alone the fact they bowled a huge bulk of overs yesterday too.

England's batters have well and truly stitched them up.

You would assume Australia's ideal situation would be to bat tonight, two sessions tomorrow, then bowl underneath the lights on the fourth evening.

Once the Root-Malan partnership was snuffed out, Australia have taken control.

There was a lot of talk this morning about how important Nathan Lyon would be.

    The answer: crucial.

It looks like Australia will bat again, but for now, a word on their bowlers.

They were helped by some quite frankly useless batting from England. But Mitchell Starc with 4-37 and Nathan Lyon with 3-58 did most of the damage.

The two openers dashed off. That tells us all we need to know.
