Wasn't this the Test we were supposed to have been able to win??

We're only seven days into the series! All hope seems to have gone already.

It's only the second Test, Steven.

During my stints on ABC radio, I've been trying to keep talking about the local cuisine I've been trying during my time here to distract them from the cricket.

Two boundaries in an over! What exciting times these are. One was a good drive from Chris Woakes, the other an edge through the slips.
Does anything make you feel more depressed than this?

Need 103 to avoid the follow-on
The shadows have crept across the majority of the ground now. We haven't even got to the difficult bit under the lights yet.
Mitchell Starc is having a breather after a spell in which he saw off Malan and Buttler. Jhye Richardson returns.

Former England bowler on BBC Test Match Special
It's been a marvellous spell by Mitchell Starc, he's just managed to find a slight bit of movement to the right handers.
But it's not been pretty viewing for England fans. Nathan Lyon has whirled away beautifully to give Australia's seamers a rest and leave them fresh for the new ball later.

Aggers said at the start of the day England fans would start to lose patience if they collapsed today on the most perfect of batting days.
I think I can see all that patience being burned up on my whirring Twitter timeline.

Jack Olsburgh: I’ve always been told being an English cricket fan in the Nineties was bad - but surely it can’t have been worse than this?

Chris Woakes is the new batter, by the way. I don't think I've mentioned that. That said he won't be around for long if the last hour is anything to go by.

Australia have taken 23 catches and not dropped one. We talk about the batting but that is such a big difference between these sides because England have let Australia get away from them on several occasions.

150-2 to 169-6.
Add whatever adjective you like. I'll go with rubbish but you may choose something stronger.
Glenn McGrath
Ex-Australia bowler on BBC Test Match Special
The pressure had been building. Starc drew Buttler into the shot by probing outside that off stump but that one was quite wide.
Buttler c Warner b Starc 0 (Eng 169-6)
Feeble and inevitable. Having been caught on nought for 15 balls, Jos Buttler chases a wide on from Mitchell Starc and edges it to slip.
It has all gone horribly, horribly wrong.
That's what England are making it feel like. Starc is good but he's no Glenn McGrath.
Umpire has just given a signal that looked suspiciously like a warning to Starc for running on the pitch in his follow-through.

This is like watching Warne and McGrath bowling at England.

Are you feeling angry or just very, very flat?
If you're just waking up in the UK and hoping to see good news about England's batting, look away now. Or just go back to sleep.
It started perfectly with Dawid Malan (80) and Joe Root (62) taking England to 140-2 at lunch without losing a wicket.
However, I'm not sure what Australia had to eat in the break but it's certainly worked for them.
They've been helped by some questionable England batting though, as ever. Root and Malan both edged balls to slip that they could've left, while Ollie Pope looked completely bamboozled by Nathan Lyon as he chipped one to short leg for just five.
Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes are the pair at the crease trying to save England from a crushing defeat. They still trail by 304.
