Eddie: Jimmy Anderson has been unreal today.

BBC Test Match Special
Despite the mediocrity of their performance with the bat yesterday England have got themselves back into this Test match. The old marble in the attack, James Anderson, is doing his job today.

Mark Wood replaces Jack Leach.
His second ball whizzes past Cameron Green's outside edge. Funny what a bit of extra pace can do.

There's some momentum back England's way if they were to get another wicket now but it feels any lead on this pitch will be crucial. The carry is still there and the movement is still there.

A wicket maiden for Anderson.
The smiles on his and Root's faces as they hug in celebration are heart-warming. They've not had many reasons to smile recently but that was pure joy.
Game. On.

Fantastic bowling from James Anderson who has persisted round the wicket line to Marcus Harris. He has played and missed on a number of occasions, but that one was a tiny bit fuller and flicks the edge. Batting is difficult out there.

Harris c Root b Anderson 76 (Aus 180-6)
Did someone ask for James Anderson?
A huge wicket for England! Anderson finds that perfect full length and a hint of seam movement (shock!) and Harris is tempted into the drive.
Root clings on again at slip for his third of the day.

It's been a far more engrossing day as a contest compared to yesterday. England have done a pretty good job but they need to keep it going.

Marcus Harris is still causing England problems as he drives Leach firmly for three runs through the covers.
The spinner looks a little more effective to the right-handed Green but the big all-rounder negotiates the over calmly.

James Anderson still has all the skills and experience. It was a little surprising to see him and Mark Wood not start together after lunch given how effective they were in the morning session.

Anderson starts neatly, conceding just a single as Cameron Green looks a little twitchy and not entirely at ease against the pace bowling.
Time for a quick Mark Wood burst at the other end?
Ah, James Anderson is out there after all.
He replaces Ollie Robinson.
Here's the wicket of Travis Head that fell just before the drinks break. Can England sneak another before Australia take a lead?

Marcus Harris helps himself to a some easy singles off Jack Leach. He continues to look untroubled.

Southside Saint: Even if England bowl them out for 200ish, what's the point? Their resistance with the bat is as solid as the newspaper wrapping on a three day old packet of chips. We should all just got to bed.
Glenn McGrath
Ex-Australia bowler on BBC Test Match Special
Ollie Robinson is bowling that fuller length where you get that extra zip and a bit of seam movement. It makes him a real handful in English conditions and quite useful here.

Another maiden from the ever-impressive Ollie Robinson takes us to drinks.
That wicket of Head has brightened things slightly but England's minimal lead is dwindling.
