Paul Cunningham: Fast bowler. Just saying.

  2. Aus 173-5published at 57 overs

Another unthreatening Leach over ticks by.

I'll ask again. Where's James Anderson?

That was just what England needed. Travis Head probably didn't need to play at that and we have seen Marcus Harris at the other end leaving a lot alone. You can see some excitement on Joe Root's face because he knows how important breaking that partnership is.

  4. Aus 172-5published at 56 overs

    Trail by 13

    A successful over from Robinson.

Cameron Green, who has impressed with the ball but struggled with bat in hand, is the new man in.

England needed that. A useful knock by Travis Head but we have a game on our hands.

  6. wicket

    Head c Root b Robinson 27 (Aus 171-5)

    Yes, it does!!

It's been a testing spell from Robinson, probing away at the off stump and he gets his reward as Head nicks it straight to slip.

Robinson had bowled a no-ball earlier in the over. He glances anxiously back at the umpire immediately but it's safe!

  7. Aus 171-4published at 55.2 overs

Robinson draws yet another loose shot from Travis Head as he plugs away at a much fuller length.

One of these has to take an edge, surely.

Another uneventful over from Leach whizzes by.

    Where's James Anderson?

It was a brighter day for England until these two came together for Australia.

Ollie Robinson is bowling good areas. He's making the batsmen thinking about it. It's all about building pressure up. If they keep leaving you have to edge it closer to off stump and find out where they are willing to play.

  12. Aus 169-4published at 54 overs

    Trail by 16

Short and wide from Ollie Robinson and Harris cracks it down to third man for another boundary.

It feels like all the pressure that England built before lunch has been completely undone in the 10 overs since.

  13. Aus 165-4published at 53 overs

Since coming over the wicket, Leach has managed to find some turn. He's firing it in quickly but just not able to pitch six balls on a length yet to build any real pressure.

This is becoming an annoying little partnership for England.

Robinson finds the edge but it just drops short of Jonny Bairstow at slip.

This is agony. Another maiden, another half-chance.

England have let things slip in these big moments and then the game has got away from them. The series might be different if England had taken those moments.

Marcus Harris has been given another chance and he's done okay today. This is an important innings for Australia and for him.

  17. Aus 163-4published at 51 overs

Probably fair to call that a half-chance, but England need to take every one they can get.

If we are being ruthless that will go down as a missed chance. It went quickly and he would have been blind to it. It's these half chances, and half moments, which make the difference.

  19. Missed stumpingpublished at 03:13 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December 2021

    Oh, would you believe it?

Harris comes charging down the pitch, the ball spins sharply and Buttler misses a chance. The turn made it a very difficult one, but a chance nonetheless.

Rispyroo: Surely we are at the point where the Root/Silverwood think tank has utterly failed? First time all series England have had momentum and this is the next move?
