That is a very, very good catch from Ollie Pope, you know. It went low and he watched it all the way into his gloves.

Putting it in the air made Harris go for the expansive stroke. That's what drew the mistake. If it was deliberate, it was brave bowling.
New batter Steve Smith predictably gets off the mark in emphatic fashion, one foot in the air as he flicks Jack Leach off his pads for a couple.

That was not a good ball. He'd been bowling fantastically at the left-hander but that was wide and far too full.

Jack Leach has a wicket... celebration day for England!
Harris c Pope b Leach 27 (Aus 52-2)
Gone! Leach strikes!
This is not a good shot, for my money. Marcus Harris aims a big, booming drive at a wide Jack Leach delivery but he gets his shape all wrong, and an inside edge ends up nestling comfortably in Ollie Pope's gloves. Pope is having a very decent session behind the stumps.
This is all just sort of meandering along at the minute, with both sides just trying to get to lunch unscathed.
A terrific dive from Dawid Malan in the gully stops Marcus Harris cracking four off James Anderson.

Ollie Pope is very vocal behind the stumps. Jos Buttler was too quiet, we heard no wicketkeeping witticisms from him.
Too full from Jack Leach, whipped into the bottom of Marcus Harris' pads, and Australia sneak a single off the last ball of the over.

Jimmy isn't going to retire, is he? He will play until his body breaks, and why not - he's such a good bowler. Steven Finn was saying to us last night that whenever Jimmy had an injury and was out for months, he always came back and was just as good, if not better. That rarely happens with bowlers.
Still bright sunshine at Sydney, by the way. Remind me never to trust a weather forecast.

Tom H: Too easy this for the Aussies.

Australia aren't running away with things at the minute, but the singles are just that bit too easy to come by. There's no real pressure being applied. And I'm not sure England have bowled right to Marcus Harris at all.

If I was a Test batter, I'd want to leave the ball like Steve Smith does and talk after a leave like Marnus Labuschagne does.
James Anderson works his way through a relatively uneventful over.

Labuschagne has come out and played a few shots. They'll want a bowl at England tonight if they possibly can.
James Anderson is coming on in place of Mark Wood.

It wasn't too far away from Joe Root, but not close enough.

Edged but for four by Labuschagne!
He shapes to cut Jack Leach but it's more outside edgy than anything, and Joe Root at slip can't get his paw to it.
And here's Woody having a bit of fun with the crowd after that diving stop!
