  1. New Zealand 46-0published at 8.2 overs

Nat Sciver has come on for Katherine Brunt, who was fuming at times in that opening spell.

Suzie Bates edges her second delivery through where third slip would be but Anya Shrubsole keeps them down to two fielding at third.

Really good start this from New Zealand, they're putting England under the pump.

  3. New Zealand 45-0published at 7.3 overs

Sophie Devine pushes for a quick single, and Tammy Beaumont's throw from close range is wide of the stumps at the bowler's end.

  4. New Zealand 44-0published at 7.2 overs

Kate Cross has replaced Anya Shrubsole, what can she conjure up?

  5. New Zealand 44-0published at 6.4 overs

It's murky and the floodlights are coming at Eden Park. I went to a Ranfurly Shield rugby game there in the 70s - is the Ranfurly Shield still "a thing"?

But this murkiness does not bother Bates, who pulls Brunt away to the square leg boundary. The bowler is chuntering away to herself, not happy with this start at all.

Simon: Evening everyone, I think pressure is really going to build over the next few hours, hate for the rain to ruin this match.

    Evening Simon!

  7. New Zealand 38-0published at 5.3 overs

Tammy Beaumont is sliding around near the boundary to keep Suzie Bates down to three as she pushes Shrubsole firmly through the offside.

Then Sophie Devine hoicks the bowler down to the long boundary as her side's fine start continues.

Jack: What was going to be a one off game at the start, has turned into a tradition. Here we go again!!

  9. New Zealand 31-0published at 5 overs

There's a bit of rain in the air but the umpires are happy to carry on, it's blowing over by the looks of it.

Brunt sends down her best over so far, and off the final ball she coaxes Devine into an inside edge that doesn't go near her stumps but certainly has the NZ skipper thinking.

I need a highchair in this comms box. I can't see.

  11. New Zealand 29-0published at 3.4 overs

That's another glorious short from the New Zealand skipper, driving past cover point for another four.

    Simply Devine. Sorry...

After that poor opening, Brunt is much better for the rest of the over by pitching it up and asking a few questions of the NZ openers.

Georgie: Dunkley flying in to save the day and putting in the yards. She's been tip top in the field chasing everything. These are the margins that can make all the difference at the end.

Sophie Devine looks in the mood already, climbing into a short one from Katherine Brunt and hooking it down to the fine-leg boundary.

Not the start England were hoping for when they elected to bowl.

  16. New Zealand 17-0published at 2 overs

Sophie Devine strokes it through the offside and a trio of England fielders just about manage to stop the ball hitting the boundary sponge thing.

Good stop that from Sophie Ecclestone, she saves the boundary.

We know how short these boundaries are. Short when straight, wide when square.

  18. New Zealand 12-0published at 1.2 overs

Shrubsole matches Brunt with a wide off her first delivery, and then leg byes squirt through and only a dive from Sophie Ecclestone stops a boundary.

Doug: I've got to get up at five for a 12-hour shift. How long should I stay up listening, and when should I get up and start listening again?

Who said anything about going to bed...

  20. New Zealand 9-0published at 1 over

Shot! Sophie Devine lays back and flays Brunt backwards of point for a superb four.

Not a great first over, are the blustery conditions (something you associate with Wellington) causing an issue?

Anya Shrubsole will take the second over.
