  1. Superchargers 42-3published at 40 balls

Joe Root didn't end up needing to bat in Trent Rockets' victory over Southern Brave on Saturday.

His bowling was very tidy then and it's proving so again here.

Just four runs from five balls off the England off-spinner. (And yes, Test captain and best batter).

    Joe Root returns.

"Roooooooooooooooooooooooot," cry the Trent Bridge crowd.

Adam Lyth gave himself space to play that sweep shot which was silly from him. Rashid Khan slips one behind his legs.

    Lyth b Khan 10 (Superchargers 38-3)

Bowled round his legs. Dearie me.

The left-handed Adam Lyth moves to the off-side, exposing his leg stump and Rashid Khan knocks it back as the Superchargers opener misses by a mile.

The hosts very much on top.

Rashid Khan is a world-class bowler. The boundaries are big at Trent Bridge but the outfield is quick.

  7. Superchargers 37-2published at 32 balls

Harry Brook isn't intimidated by Rashid Khan, mind. Two fours in a row, albeit the first was a streaky top edge over the keeper.

The second far better, rocking back to pull it away.

Spin, spin, spin and more spin.

Here comes Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan, one of the finest T20 bowlers in the world.

Harry Brook was impressive in his first match in The Hundred. He played his natural game and smoked it. He's a key wicket for the Superchargers.

  10. Superchargers 29-2published at 30 balls

And Samit Patel continues the fine work of his team-mates.

No bad balls and only four runs conceded.

Notts favourite Samit Patel is coming on to bowl his left-arm spin.

  12. Superchargers 25-2published at 25 balls

Matt Carter's second five not as successful - a couple of wides before Adam Lyth carves a lofted drive away for four. Fine shot.

But Trent Rockets will be the happier side after the powerplay.

He's undroppable from the attack for now at least. Matt Carter gets another set of five...

  14. Superchargers 18-2published at 20 balls

Carter is only playing because Steven Mullaney has been identified as a possible close contact of Rockets head coach Andy Flower, who has tested positive for Covid-19.

A few more wickets and he might well be making himself undroppable.

A big lbw shout against new man Harry Brook is not given. Brook is curiously wearing dark pink pads instead of purple. Have they been caught out in the rain and some of the colour washed out?

Matt Carter was brought into the side today and has two wickets! He has a peculiar action, and Ben Stokes was looking to go over the top and just spooned it up. A big wicket.

    Stokes c Hales b Carter 9 (Superchargers 17-2)

There will be no more Joe Root bowling to Ben Stokes this evening, I'm afraid.

Ben Stokes slices a big drive up in the air and former England team-mate Alex Hales pouches it.

Matt Carter on one here - the tall off-spinner getting plenty of bounce to cause the batters problems.

  18. Superchargers 17-1published at 16 balls

A mix-up between Lyth and Stokes. Lyth scurries back in time as the throw comes in, deflects off the wickets and away for four. Freak runs there.

The Trent Bridge crowd enjoyed that battle. Joe Root will be pretty pleased with that, bowling in the powerplay.

  20. Superchargers 13-1published at 15 balls

Ben Stokes unfurls a reverse sweep but finds the fielder.

Decent stuff from Joe Root all in all despite that first-ball four.
