Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka: "The bowlers have been outstanding all tournament. The back 10 overs have been a concern for us all tournament but a lot of the guys are playing their first World Cup and the experience will benefit them.

"We knew the dew factor would play a major role but credit to Jos Buttler and Eoin Morgan they showed their experience and how much international cricket they have got behind them.

"Six months ago we weren't the same side and we've come a long way. I am really happy with the way the boys have been fighting and it will be really good for us in the future."

England captain Eoin Morgan: "I am incredibly proud of everything we've done tonight. I thought the guys had to fight unbelievably hard, particularly with the ball, and probably in the first 10 overs with the bat. The conditions continued to change and then Tymal going down asked another questions of ourselves but I thought Liam Livingstone and Moeen Ali stepped up unbelievably well to support the other guys with the ball.

"I can't fault our guys tonight. It was challenging for the guys up top tonight and I thought Jos Buttler played one of his best ever innings in an England shirt. It was incredible to be at the other end and to watch the ebb and flow and then sheer domination at the end. He is one of the best in the game and it is a privilege to play alongside him and have him in our team."

More from Jos Buttler, talking to Sky Sports: "The dew was bad out there. It made it difficult for the bowlers to grip it and that was one of the reasons that we bowled Adil Rashid out early. We wanted to give him the best chance with the ball as dry as possible. We don't know if it is going to come or not and what is pleasing that we didn't have the best of conditions, which we probably have in the first three games, but we've shown the character to win.

"I'm not sure our maths quite worked out with the Tymal Mills injury, but we just felt that with the short boundary it was going to be a big three balls in the game and they would have targeted Moeen Ali in that moment. He was confident to bowl to the long side. We put an immense amount of trust in the guys."

More from Jos Buttler, talking to Sky Sports: "I remember saying a while ago that if I could put both parts of my game together, from opening and being in the middle order, then I'd be getting in a really good place with my T20 batting. I back myself to catch and my death hitting is a strength. Experience helps a lot and it helps you to keep calm. It was great to have Morgs at the other end, I really enjoy batting with him.

"Eoin never shows too much emotion or like he is too down about things. I think he enjoyed getting a few out of the middle and he'll feel great for that. It was an incredibly great knock to be honest with us being three down. When you've had a run of low scores you probably don't want to come in then but he showed a lot of character and was calm - that is one of his greatest assets and it was a brilliant partnership that we put together."

Here's the moment England made it four wins from four in the T20 World Cup.

Jos Buttler on Sky Sports: "We had to work hard. We showed a lot of character and conditions changed quite a lot and obviously Tymal Mills picked up the injury so guys had to step up. Liam Livingstone was asked to bowl two really difficult overs there and picked up a key wicket of Hasaranga.

"It was a completely different wicket to Saturday and I found it tough early on and the spinners particularly difficult with the low bounce. I'm really pleased to keep a calm head and work through it and back myself to come good at the end and target certain bowlers and ends with the shorter boundaries. I felt like I used a lot my experience."

  10. 'Run out was my favourite part of the day'published at 17:57 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2021

Player of the match Jos Buttler: "Staying patient was key and keeping my head. I found it really tough early on but I managed to build a good partnership with Morgs [Eoin Morgan] and we could attack at the back end.

"We were just trying to get something going. We were finding the spin bowlers really tricky. At one stage we thought that 120 would be a good score but we managed to get going a little bit and work nicely in the partnership and each take the small side and trying to target that.

"I just use the same bat all the time, even in the nets. If I find one I like I just keeping going with it.

"The run out was probably my favourite part of the day! We were under pressure for a long part in the chase, especially knowing that Mo needed to bowl, so I was delighted to get that wicket.

"I was trying to guess where he would bowl that fina ball. I was pretty calm but at that stage I'd batted for a long time and I was just hoping he would miss."

Let's hear from Jos Buttler, who followed up his stunning century with this bit of fielding brilliance.

  12. Postpublished at 17:55 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2021

England all-rounder Moeen Ali on TMS: "It's exactly what we needed. A few things went against us, when it comes to the dew and Tymal getting injured. It was a great win in the end and another confidence booster."

On Jos Buttler, who made an unbeaten 101 off 67 balls: "It was a fantastic hundred - one of his best ones.

"He played it perfectly. With the talent he has, he knows he can catch up and score ridiculously quickly. That partnership he had with Morgs really gave us a score.

"The way he's playing, the way he's smart with his batting and the way he can adapt just shows how good this team is and how good he is."

We'll all end up trying to be net run rate experts in a few days time - I'll admit that I know nothing about it and I am too useless at maths to try - but here's how it stands in Group 1.

England have got a clean sheet. They have had to do it the hard way today but they got there pretty comfortably in the end.
