  1. Eng 84-8published at 20 overs

    Willey 8, Carse 8

England are edging closer to avoiding their lowest ever ODI score.

A bit of width from Prasidh Krishna is capitalised on from Brydon Carse as he upper-cuts over point for his first boundary.

He then shanks a heave over mid-on for a single too.

The crowd are, understandably, rather quiet at The Oval.

Craig Overton had absolutely no idea how to play this...

The eighth wicket fell at 68, England have had only three innings where it has fallen at a lower total. Two of those were back in the early days of one-day cricket in the 1970s: they were 28-8 in 1974 against Pakistan at Edgbaston and 52-8 in an extraordinary World Cup semi-final against Australia in 1975.

  4. Eng 79-8published at 19 overs

Productive over for England as David Willey and Brydon Carse pick up five off Mohammed Shami.

I know it's not much, but come on. It's something.

Samuel: Based on this performance, England should pay the ECB match fees and do teas next week.

  6. Eng 74-8published at 18 overs

A reminder at this point that England's lowest ever ODI score is 86. It is 88 when batting first. Both could be under threat today.

David Willey doesn't quite time a pull but picks up four through mid-wicket, before getting off strike with a leg bye.

Brydon Carse gets off the mark with a thick outside edge, that falls a few inches away from Rohit Sharma at second slip, and runs away for a single.

Here's the wicket of Jos Buttler.

He had to try and score some quick runs for England so you can understand this dismissal a bit more than some of the others.

  8. Eng 68-8published at 17 overs

Brydon Carse is beaten first ball, before he defends the final two balls of the over.

I wonder what the England changing room is like right now? They must be shell shocked.

That is an unbelievable delivery, that is nearly unplayable. The ball has swung in and then shaped away. Perfect seam going down to Overton.

He's bowled him with an absolute peach. Top of off and middle, that is the perfect delivery to bowl.

    Overton b Shami 8 (Eng 68-8)

Yeah, he's not going to do a Jamie.

It is a beautiful piece of bowling from Mohammed Shami to be fair. He finds just enough seam movement to beat the defence of Craig Overton and the ball cannons into the top of off and middle stump.

This is going to be over very quickly you feel.

    Here's how Moeen Ali feels.

There was an air of inevitability about it to be honest.

Two fours! Craig Overton flicks away through square leg before driving behind point for another boundary.

Is he going to do a Jamie Overton?

Robin Johnson: England fans - we might think this is bad, but wait until Simon Harmer (pictured) runs through our batters in the coming Test matches.

Graymanuk: So is this poor batting, brilliant bowling, or a wicket not suitable for an international ODI? If I'd paid money to watch I'd be a tad peeved.

  16. Eng 59-7published at 15 overs

David Willey leaves and blocks out the remainder of Mohammed Shami's over.

Willey and Craig Overton together in the 15th over. Deary me.

Well judged by the man on the deep square leg boundary. Buttler took on the hook shot again, this one was top-edged. England now, well, they might just write this off.

    Buttler c Suryakumar b Shami 30 (Eng 59-7)

    Oh dear!

Jos Buttler takes on the hook again, but gets a top edge this time.

Suryakumar Yadav steadies himself on the square-leg boundary, and stands as far back as he knows as he can go to take a legitimate catch, and holds on easily.

This is an absolute mess. Make plans for this evening.

  20. Eng 59-6published at 14.2 overs

India and Rohit Sharma are going for the kill.

    Mohammed Shami is back on.

Jos Buttler greets him with a drive for a couple, before pulling to the square leg boundary.
