This England team aren't going to back off. The only way Jason Roy will play is to show that aggressive intent.

    Buttler 12, Roy 4

Rabada is into his groove right away, thudding one into Jason Roy's thigh pad. Roy is a man out of form and is yet to really find the middle of the bat.

Enough of that spin. Time for some rockets from Kagiso Rabada.

These boundaries aren't big enough for Jos Buttler when you bowl it there.

    Good evening, Jos Buttler.

He follows that streaky four with the most nonchalant of sixes over mid-wicket off spinner Keshav Maharaj.

    An outrageous shot.

Klaasen has got to get the old long barrier out there. He went down like I used to.

  7. Eng 4-0published at 0.3 overs

Oh no. An absolute shocker from Heinrich Klaasen!

Jos Buttler nudges a drive and the ball goes straight under him at extra cover.

It's four and the crowd absolutely love it.

    Here we go then.

Fire erupts as Jos Buttler and Jason Roy wander out to the middle.

It's gloomy and the pitch is a little green. It could be a good toss to win - again.

South Africa captain David Miller: "We are pretty consistent with our team over the last year so in terms of managing the bowlers they know what they need to do. It is just about reassuring them in those situations. In T20 cricket the ball does fly around so it's just about trying to stay calm in those situations and overcome the opposition.

"You can take a lot from this series. We have to do all three components, batting, bowling and fielding, really well. They are a really good team. So are we but we have to be on the mark and up for it. And often in T20 cricket whoever is up for it generally wins."

South Africa are ranked fourth in the world, behind England, India and Pakistan.

They'll fancy themselves in the World Cup in Australia.

    Another good test for England.

England have got a great balance, Sam Curran in the middle order gives you that bit of difference with the left arm and is a good batsman in his own right.

That top order is pretty special, any one of those comes off and you are looking at the total South Africa won't be able to chase. So an exciting team for England.

England captain Jos Buttler: "If we had won the toss we would have bowled first as well. It is a quite a small ground and there is a bit of grass on the pitch as well so we have to see how it plays early on.

"We see this series as the start of the real lead-in to the T20 World Cup. We don't have any one-day cricket now so we want to build up some good performances both individually and collectively into that World Cup."

I don't think anyone can ever bat as well as Jonny Bairstow is at the moment. Game after game he is churning out runs and is loving doing it.

It is also the speed he is scoring runs, his strike rate is incredible. He is entertaining the crowd as well.

When you play the way England do occasionally it won't come off. They have been on the wrong side of a couple of tosses too, which hasn't helped.

But those players have all performed well trying to play that way and won competitions. So they will believe in their philosophy and I don't see them changing that any time soon.

There's no Ben Stokes in this series. He is resting before the Tests.

England have left out Phil Salt and Harry Brook and instead picked the all-rounders. Sam Curran and Moeen Ali both play.

Richard Gleeson, Reece Topley and Chris Jordan are the quicks.

The T20 World Cup may seem a long way away but there are just 87 days until England's opener in Perth and these are England last matches on home soil before the event.

Throw in the underwhelming performances in defeat against India earlier this month and this series starts to look even more crucial.

England need to get back on track.
