  1. 50 runs

50 for James Braceypublished at 17:43 British Summer Time 7 April 2022

    Gloucestershire 141-7 v Northants

The good news is that James Bracey has gone to his half-century - his 22nd in first-class cricket.

The bad news is that they have gone off again.

    Another rain break!

Willi it be the last of a very weather-hit day?

  2. Cook survives on 93published at 17:40 British Summer Time 7 April 2022

    Essex 226-1 v Kent

Kent getting some real joy with the new ball towards the end of this tough day in the field.

Matt Milnes almost grabs the prize wicket of Alastair Cook but sees an outside edge from him fly through a gap in the slip cordon and away for four to the third man boundary to take him to 97.

  3. Ingram leads Glamorgan recovery against Durhampublished at 17:36 British Summer Time 7 April 2022

Here's the report from a rain-affected first day in Cardiff, where Colin Ingram's unbeaten 71 helped Glamorgan reach 164-4 against Durham.

Having won the toss and chosen to field, the visitors took early wickets before 28 from captain David Lloyd and debutant Sam Northeast's 24 helped Ingram rebuild.

Durham were on top by lunch, with Ben Raine's two wickets limiting Glamorgan to 108-4.

Chris Cooke, 30 not out, and Ingram then shared an unbroken stand of 56 before rain stopped play shortly after tea.

  4. 50 runs

50 up for Hampshirepublished at 17:35 British Summer Time 7 April 2022

    Hampshire 51-0 v Somerset 180

Joe Weatherley (30 not out) and Ian Holland (19 no out) continue to make hay for Hampshire in their reply.

They bring up a 50 partnership as Tom Abell is forced to introduce himself into the Somerset attack in a bid to find a breakthrough.

  5. rain stops play

Rain stops playpublished at 17:33 British Summer Time 7 April 2022

    Surrey 168-3 v Warwickshire

Yet another rain interruption in Birmingham.

Came from nowhere did that one!

Off they go with Ollie Pope on 40 and Ben Foakes on 9.

They may not be off too long though. Already the rain has stopped!

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:32 British Summer Time 7 April 2022

    Browne b Bird 107 (Essex 220-1 v Kent)

A wicket finally falls at Chelmsford as the skies start to get quite gloomy.

Jackson Bird gets one through Nick Browne's attempted off-drive to bowl him for 107 off 253 balls.

Brings to an end a 220-run opening stand between him and Alastair Cook (93 not out).

  7. Pope in good touchpublished at 17:28 British Summer Time 7 April 2022

    Surrey 166-3 v Warwickshire

This weather-dominated day at Edgbaston has had almost everything.

Sun, wind, longish showers, short showers, squally showers, blue sky, white clouds, grey clouds, dark grey clouds, ugly clouds. Even, briefly a rainbow!

But it has also served up some fine cricket.

Ryan Patel in first session and now Ollie Pope in the last, who is looking a real pot of gold

Pope has already hit eight boundaries in his 39 - and looks in good touch.

  8. 100 runs

100 for Nick Brownepublished at 17:24 British Summer Time 7 April 2022

    Essex 214-0 v Kent

A chanceless innings from Nick Browne for his 17th first-class century.

He has looked safe and assured from the first ball of the morning, making the most of a good surface and the lack of real threat from the Kent attack.

Even when Kent dried-up the runs, he did not change his approach, staying patient and watchful but ready to take advantage of the bad deliveries which came his way.

This has been faultless stuff from Essex as Browne reaches his century off 243 balls with his 13th four.

  9. Eskinazi makes way after superb 118published at 17:16 British Summer Time 7 April 2022

    Middlesex 246-3 v Derbyshire

Shadows begin to loom over the Lord's pitch, but Stevie Eskinazi no longer looms over Derbyshire.

A superbly-compiled 118 before Suranga Lakmal enticed him into the first false stroke of the day.

Wayne Madsen at slip takes those in his sleep.

Lakmal is taking a rest with the new ball imminent. Prise a couple more out and it could still be a half-decent day for the visitors.

Robbie White (15 not out) and Max Holden (14 not out) both have starts though.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:11 British Summer Time 7 April 2022

    Zafar Gohar c McManus b Berg 2 (Gloucestershire 103-7 v Northants)

A second wicket for Gareth Berg as he finds the edge of Zafar Gohar.

James Bracey immediately hits a delightful second boundary in the next over off Tom Taylor to move to 31, but he is fast running out of partners.

He then follows that up with two more fours off Taylor to go to 41 - 14 in that Taylor over.

    Hampshire 33-0 v Somerset 180

    Ian HollandImage source, Rex Features

No breakthrough yet for Somerset new-ball pair Peter Siddle and Ned Leonard as they defend just 180.

Joe Weatherley (21 not out) and Ian Holland (12 not out) have both capitalised on anything loose to move into double figures already.

  14. 200 runs

200 up for Essexpublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 7 April 2022

    Essex 203-0 v Kent

Nick Browne dispatches a full toss from spinner Tawanda Muyeye to the deep mid-wicket boundary to take him into the 90s and Essex past 200.

Browne now unbeaten on 94 and Alastair Cook close behind him at the other end on 89.

  15. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 7 April 2022

Lace lbw Sanderson 5 (Gloucestershire 98-6 v Northants)

Tom Lace becomes Ben Sanderson's fourth victim - and his third LBW decision.

Lace's demeanour on his way back to the hutch suggests that he was not best pleased with some aspect of his dismissal. Maybe it was his footwork?

A second wicket for Olly Hannon-Dalby.

New man to join England colleague Ollie Pope is Ben Foakes.

  17. Close of play at Sophia Gardenspublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 7 April 2022

    Galmorgan 164-4 v Durham

And those earlier heavy hail storms in Cardiff have indeed curtailed the day's play.

Glamorgan will resume on day two on 164-4. Colin Ingram is unbeaten on 71 and Chris Cooke 30.

  18. Bad start for Pearspublished at 16:54 British Summer Time 7 April 2022

    Worcestershire 32-2 v Leicestershire

Awful start for Worcestershire in the last of the eight games to get underway today.

They have already lost three wickets before being offered respite when the weather intervened once more. And new signing Azhar Ali, on his debut, will not want to see this again . . .

Make you own minds up about which other Pakistan Test batsman it reminds you of?

  20. Still blustery but dry now in Birminghampublished at 16:42 British Summer Time 7 April 2022

    Surrey 123-2 v Warwickshire

Preparations are underway to get back in for a 16:50 restart at Edgbaston.

29.5 overs left in the day.

    31 so far lost today.

The sun is out, and the covers are coming off. But it's still somewhat blustery!
