  2. Pitch likely to be 'only winner here'published at 13:21 British Summer Time 9 April 2022

    Essex 514 v Kent 200-2

    Paul Newton
    BBC Essex at Chelmsford

In what looks predestined to finish in a draw, Kent took their overnight 122-1 to 200-2 at lunch.

Feaature of the morning was the stylish ease with which Ben Compton took his overnight 47 to within three of a century.

Sole wicket of the morning was Tawanda Muyeye, lbw to Matt Critchley for 58 after a partnership of 121 with Compton.

Critchley continued his fine Essex debut with a spell of 1-21 in 10 overs.

But the blandness of the pitch looks to be the only winner here.

  3. Derbyshire narrowing the deficitpublished at 13:18 British Summer Time 9 April 2022

    Middlesex 401 v Derbyshire 256-6

    Sam Dalling
    BBC Radio London at Lord's

Through to lunch without further alarm, Derbyshire have 256-6 with Anuj Dal and Alex Thomson going along nicely.

It's a big season for both, each having large boots to step into.

Dal is - at least until Luis Reece is fit to bowl - the senior all-rounder after great friend Fynn Hudson-Prentice returned to Sussex.

He has nudged and nurdled his way to an unbeaten 30. If there is a man quicker between the wickets than Dal in the County Championship well, I’m yet to see him.

And Thomson is now Derbyshire's premier spinner-cum-batter following Matt Critchley’s departure.

No-one is saying he is in Critchley’s league, but he has had a fine game thus far.

His 19 not out has included a rocket of a pull shot, all six foot plenty of him behind it.

  6. Lunch at Edgbastonpublished at 13:11 British Summer Time 9 April 2022

    Warwickshire 136-4, Surrey 428-8 dec

Matt Lamb (64) and Sam Hain (32) head off for a well deserved lunch after putting on a so far unbroken 95 for the Bears' fifth wicket

  7. Fuller makes Somerset task more imposingpublished at 13:11 British Summer Time 9 April 2022

    Somerset (180 & 88-4) trail Hampshire (428) by 160 runs

    Jem Green
BBC Radio Solent at the Ageas Bowl

Somerset openers Ben Green and Tom Lammonby saw off the first hour of play with little difficulty.

The only wavering of this period of play was when Lammonby seemed to be in two minds to a couple of short deliveries, having to weigh up the opportunity to keep the scoreboard ticking over, but also ensuring that his side are able to bat for as long as possible in the two days remaining.

Without reward, the opening attack of Mohammad Abbas and Kyle Abbott made way for Keith Barker and James Fuller.

With the pitch flattening out, blue skies and the Somerset openers set fair, it looked like the morning session would belong to Somerset, but after a couple of "loosener" overs, Fuller found his groove with the triple threat of line, length and swing to dismiss Ben Green, Tom Abell and Tom Lammonby in quick succession to give the momentum back to the home side.

Abbott picked up the final wicket of the session to leave Somerset a mammoth task to save this game with just six wickets in hand.

  8. Lunch at Chelmsfordpublished at 13:05 British Summer Time 9 April 2022

    Essex 514 v Kent 200-2

And that's the break at Chelmsford.

Just the one wicket to fall in the morning session as bat continues to dominate ball.

Ben Compton (97 not out) on the verge of a maiden Kent century as he and Jordan Cox (11 not out) have added 43 for the third wicket so far.

Kent also with a first batting bonus point in the bag too.

  9. Lunch at the Ageas Bowlpublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 9 April 2022

    Somerset (180 & 88-4) trail Hampshire (428) by 160 runs

    Lunch at Southampton.

Morning session of two halves you could say after Somerset stood firm for the first hour with openers Ben Green and Tom Lammonby before they lost four wickets in the second hour in quick succession.

James Fuller took the first three and then Kyle Abbott got the fourth.

Somerset 160 runs behind with only six second-innings wickets in hand.

  10. 50 runs

50 stand for Gloucestershirepublished at 12:58 British Summer Time 9 April 2022

    Gloucestershire 233 & 78-4, Northants 288

Chris Dent and Ryan Higgins have put on 50 together to take Gloucestershire into a lunchtime lead at Northampton.

10 minuets to go the break. Another late lunch, both there and at Edgbaston as both games catch up on overs.

  11. Lunch on the horizon...published at 12:58 British Summer Time 9 April 2022

Not long to go until the end of the morning sessions on this third day.

Some sides moving into very commanding positions while other matches continuing to be evenly-balanced...

  12. 50 runs

50 for Matt Lambpublished at 12:51 British Summer Time 9 April 2022

    Warwickshire 117-4, Surrey 428-8 dec

Matt Lamb gets to a very pleasant 50 off 69 balls.

His previous best score in two Championship meetings with Surrey was 5, so he's improved on that ten-fold.

And he's already hit another two boundaries - taking him to 10 for the morning.

He and Sam Hain have now put on 76.

  13. Compton into the 90s for Kentpublished at 12:49 British Summer Time 9 April 2022

    Essex 514 v Kent 193-2

Ben Compton (92 not out) closing in on a century in his first Kent innings as runs continue to flow at Chelmsford.

Twin spin being employed by Essex with Matt Critchley and England part-time sensation Dan Lawrence twirling at the other end, but so far bat continues to rule over ball in this one.

Hampshire pick up a fourth Somerset wicket as their spell of dominance continues.

Kyle Abbott gets one through James Hildreth to rearrange his stumps.

Somerset still 165 runs behind making Hampshire bat again.

  15. Postpublished at 12:36 British Summer Time 9 April 2022

    Glamorgan 234, Durham 58-1

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Despite a frost in Cardiff today and yesterday's hailstorms and downpours, we started on time this morning.

But time is one thing this match may now be lacking following the loss of 122 overs in the first two days.

They can only claim back eight lost overs today and none tomorrow. And that's only if the light holds. They are not allowed to use the floodlights for County Championship matches this season.

Durham opener Michael Jones was bowled by Timm Van Der Gugten in the 17th over when on nine.

He put on 37 with England's Alex Lees, who can be considered fortunate to still be out there.

He's taken an off-stump stance and has left his leg and middle stumps exposed. Michael Hogan, bowling around the wicket, had two big shouts for LBW turned down by umpire Russell Warren. The second looked like it was going to smash into off stump.

  16. 50 runs

50 partnership for Bearspublished at 12:28 British Summer Time 9 April 2022

    Warwickshire 85-4, Surrey 428-8 dec

Good response from Warwickshire's fifth-wicket pair Sam Hain and Matt Lamb.

Lamb has so far hit seven boundaries, a the latest of them a beautiful very straight on drive off James Taylor. But it is Sam Hain who brings up their fifty partnership as he crashes his first boundary of the day through the covers in the direction of an almost totally empty Eric Hollies Stand.

And another for Hampshire and James Fuller!

Three wickets taken by the seamer in the space of 20 minutes and Somerset are staring down the barrel of a heavy defeat now.

Tom Lammonby is caught down the legside by Ben Brown to one he couldn't pull his gloves out of the way of.

Somerset still 191 runs behind with seven wickets remaining.

James Fuller picks up two wickets in as many overs for Hampshire!

Somerset skipper Tom Abell shuffles across his crease and looks like he gets struck on his back pad.

Somerset lose two quick ones and still trail by 194 runs.

WICKETpublished at 12:11 British Summer Time 9 April 2022

    Muyeye lbw b Critchley 58 (Essex 514 v Kent 157-2)

Wicket time finally for Essex on this third day.

Matt Critchley's golden touch in this match continues as he traps Tawanda Muyeye leg before with his leg-spin. Batter didn't look pleased with the decision but he looked pretty adjacent on the replays.

    Ends a second-wicket partnership worth 121.
