    Middlesex 401 v Derbyshire 222-6

    Sam Dalling
    BBC Radio London at Lord's

Could almost be summer here but for the temperature. Beautifully blue.

Steady enough start for Derbyshire. They’ve picked up their first batting bonus point of 2022 – those were few and far between last season.

In fact, they failed to reach 200 in the first dig of exactly half of their 14 County Championship games.

They have lost a man though, Luis Reece falling lbw to Ethan Bamber from around the wicket.

A shame as he had just reached 20 with a pair of glorious strokes off Tom Helm the over before.

Leus du Plooy was digging in but he's just been well-caught in the slip cordon for 26 by Robbie White off Tim Murtagh.

Middlesex have the new ball in hand. Or is it the second new ball. We've settled on the latter here.

By the way, kudos to the ground staff. Plenty of eye rolling about pitches here in recent years, but this one is a cracker.

    Hammond c Curran b Sanderson 1 (Gloucestershire 223 & 21-4 v Northants 288)

A third wicket of the day at at Wantage Road as Miles Hammond perishes to a stylish, but ill-advised clash off Ben Sanderson to Ben Curran in the gully.

Still trailing by 44 on first innings, it was not the ideal shot for the circumstances.

Not exactly been an early-season bowlers' paradise so far at Chelmsford.

After three players made centuries in Essex's 514, Kent have made a strong start in their reply to resume on 122-1 this morning.

Ben Compton (pictured above) and Tawanda Muyeye are both closing in on half-centuries as the visitors look well set to pile on another big score.

Or will there be a change in complexion after this opening session?
