Summary

  • Woeful Australia skittled for 111 - Santner takes 3-31

  • Conway stars for New Zealand with 92 off 58

  • Neesham adds late impetus with 26 off 13

  • Allen's 42 off 16 gets New Zealand off to flying start

  • England face Afghanistan in day's later game from 12:00 BST

  1. NZ 81-1published at 8 overs

Marcus Stoinis' over goes for just seven, which Australia will be pretty happy with.

They could do with another wicket but the way Kane Williamson is playing will probably suit them right now. He's not putting them under much pressure with eight from 12 balls.

Can we just take a moment of appreciation for New Zealand's kit?

    Beautiful.

Finn Allen is my new favourite T20 player. Good on him, that was good watching. He hit Australia to all parts.

The run map shows Finn Allen scored 42 with 3 sixes, 5 fours, 1 two, and 2 singles for New Zealand
  4. NZ 74-1published at 7 overs

Another good over for New Zealand, nine runs from it.

They have got to keep attacking now, they can't afford to let Australia get back into the game. It looks like Devon Conway is the man who's going to keep attacking, while Kane Williamson will probably anchor the innings.

That was beautifully placed and timed by Conway.

  6. NZ 69-1published at 6.1 overs

Here's Zampa's chance to redeem himself with the ball... but he's thrashed through the covers for four by Devon Conway first ball.

  7. NZ 65-1published at 6 overs

    Conway 19, Williamson 4

End of the powerplay and thanks to Finn Allen's 42 from 16 balls it's been a very good one for New Zealand.

It could've been a lot better for the Aussies had Adam Zampa held on to this chance when Allen was on 19...

I'd love to say that's a practiced shot. The ramp shot is one of his shots but he's had to adapt at the last minute - and Pat Cummins is quick so there wasn't much time.

  10. NZ 64-1published at 5.2 overs

    Oh, that is unreal.

Devon Conway sets himself up to ramp the ball down to fine leg, but Pat Cummins sees him coming and goes wide of off stump.

So Conway somehow ends up guiding it down to third man for four. How he's done that, I have no clue, but it's quality. Cummins can't believe it.

What a start by New Zealand. It's been phenomenal.

  12. NZ 60-1published at 5 overs

    With a four, of course.

Bit of width from Hazlewood and Kane Williamson just effortlessly guides it through the covers.

Still a very good over - the four the only runs from it and the big wicket of Finn Allen.

Kane Williamson's natural game is to give himself a chance and the team know that his job is to be there so they can bat around him.

  14. NZ 56-1published at 4.4 overs

Pressure building a bit now. A wicket and three dot balls to Kane Williamson in this over so far.

How will the New Zealand skipper respond?

Beautiful delivery from Josh Hazlewood, cannoning into the off stump. Just the response Australia needed.

    Allen b Hazlewood 42 (NZ 56-1)

A perfectly executed yorker from the best T20 bowler in the world brings a fabulous innings to an end.

Hazlewood's first over went for 15 but he responds with the first ball of his second. Full, straight and crashing into the stumps and Australia are ecstatic.

But Finn Allen has done his job beautifully. 42 off just 16 balls to get his team off to a rapid start.

This incredible innings of Finn Allen continues. That is as pure hitting as you'll see.

  19. 6 runs

    NZ 56-0published at 4 overs

    Wow.

Marcus Stoinis seems to be doing the trick of slowing things down with his medium pace, conceding just three runs from his first four balls.

But Finn Allen's not having that. Down the pitch, over his head for six. Stunning.
