Seems like a plan from Ireland to sweep the spinners, try to sweep every ball from outside of stump but he got a glove onto that and onto the stumps.

We can never go for from that 150 mark, it gives you something to defend and creates scoreboard pressure.

  6. Ire 24-1published at 4 overs

A brilliant over from Lahiru Kumara as he bowls full and straight to restrict the Ireland batters - until the final ball. Paul Stirling punching straight down the ground for four.

  7. Ire 17-1published at 2.4 overs

    In the air....but safe!

Lorcan Tucker plays the pre-meditated paddle shot that just evades the dive of the fielder at short fine leg and Ireland can run three.

Throughout the World Cup we'll be bringing you match-ups of key players during the games, and seeing who will have the biggest impact for their respective sides.

Today's pairing features Ireland's best batter against Sri Lanka's star bowler.

Paul Stirling is an aggressive, dangerous opening batter who has just found his form at the perfect time for Ireland, smashing 66 not out from 48 balls to set up their thrashing of the West Indies to reach the Super 12s.

For Sri Lanka, Wanindu Hasaranga is their man man. A tricky leg-spinner with all sorts of variations and a destructive lower order batter, too.

Who will come out on top today? We can expect plenty of fireworks from both.

Andy Balbirnie calls correctly and opts to bat first.

It is a chilly afternoon in Hobart and there has been plenty of rain around the last 24 hours. But it is dry for now and the sun is breaking through the clouds, so we should be fine to start on time.
