I don't think Dawid Malan was aggressive enough from the start. Once he played and missed a couple of times, he went into his shell.

Yes, there was rain at the end, but Ireland deserved this. Their pace bowlers completely outperformed England's. England bowled miles too short, but the Irish held their length and exploited the plentiful movement on offer.

Kevin Ticehurst: Embarrassing, absolutely embarrassing. Ireland thoroughly deserved to beat us even without the rain intervening. Back to the drawing board and fast!
Daniel Norburn: England fully deserved to lose this game. Until the last few balls England were slow and struggling. From the 1st over Duckworth Lewis was being talked about and England needed to put themselves ahead early on. Well done Ireland.
The Ireland players are over with their fans, no doubt some families in there too. West Indies last week, England this week. Outstanding.

Chris Adams: Well played Ireland but that’s poor from England. England got the team selection wrong and were a bowler light. But even so England’s batters just weren’t at the races.
Stuart Mitchell: Summing up that performance by England... there were only three things wrong with it. They couldn't bowl, they couldn't field and they couldn't bat (until the last 3 balls) Congratulations to Ireland though, fully deserved.
All of a sudden, that game between England and Australia on this ground on Friday looks like an effective knockout.

Ireland played some really good cricket. They bowled really well in the first six overs and I think that's where they won it. England couldn't deal with the swing.

Party time for the Irish at the G as their music booms out.
For 2011 in Bangalore read 2022 in Melbourne.
Ireland fans are dancing in the stands. England players don't know where to look. Where does this leave their World Cup bid now?

What a result that is for Ireland - and for Australia. It's a lifeline for the Aussies.
It's a shame for Ireland in a way, that it's finished like this, but their supporters don't care.
All over!
Ireland have won! Ireland have won by five runs!
They have done it again! Another Irish win over England at a World Cup.
It's with the help of the rain, but that doesn't matter. No one can say they don't deserve it.

It's just getting heavier. The rain looked like it was stopping but it has got heavier again.

Matthew Mott is wrapped in a towel. Not a good look if you want to give the impression it's drying out.

What an upset it would be. You'd have to say that Ireland deserve to win this. England bowled poorly and, with the exception of Moeen, none of England's batsmen have timed the ball.
Eng 105-5
England look like toast here. Ireland the toast of Melbourne.

This is the view out the back of the MCG where the rain is coming from.

TV is saying that the game needs to resume by 18:56 local time or it's off, and Ireland win. It's currently 18:50.

Patrick Brennan: England fully deserve to be screwed by the rain, been an abysmal innings until the last 3 balls. The fact they're going to lose narrowly does not hide the fact that they've been outplayed.
Stuart Mitchell: This would be just reward for England if the rain wins the game for Ireland. Attacked too late and still 5 runs behind DLS.
Eng 105-5
There's a huge white sheet on the square. The groundstaff are circling it. The fourth umpire has an umbrella up. I'd be stunned if they play again.
Corbin Middlemas

The whole square is being covered now. It doesn't look like they're waiting for a shower to pass, they're expecting a longer delay.
