  1. NZ 114-2

Glenn Phillips doesn't want to let this form go. He looks in absolutely fantastic nick.

He picks up four more with a drive over cover, before a crunching pull into mid-wicket.

    His power is ridiculous.

Glenn Phillips is a man in form. He is playing well and hitting it well. He is probably seeing it like a football already.

  3. NZ 103-2

Here we go. It's Glenn Phillips time.

It takes him just two balls to hit first six as he gets down and slog sweeps over square leg. Superb shot.

New Zealand are going to get a big score here.

  4. WICKET

    Conway c Adair b Delany 28 (NZ 96-2)

    The plans works.

Ireland had clearly discussed firing the ball across Devon Conway and making him hit into the off-side or drag it into the on-side.

It brings the wicket too as the left-hander looks to go over long-on, but just picks out Mark Adair.

He knew as soon as he hit it that he hadn't connected properly. His head immediately fell.

Ireland are guilty of bowling too short. Williamson is such a good player he is not going to let you get away with such loose bowling.

  6. NZ 93-1

    Brilliant over for New Zealand.

Devon Conway brings up a rare boundary with a crunching pull through mid-wicket, before Kane Williamson plonks a full ball back down the ground for a one-bounce four.

It results in Fionn Hand going shorter and Williamson just effortlessly pulls over square leg for his first six.

18 from the over. New Zealand are working their way up to a very competitive score.

It's important for Conway not to get fixated with trying to get the ball over deep mid-wicket. They are small boundaries so if he can just play good cricket shots there are runs elsewhere.

  8. NZ 75-1

A first look at left-arm spinner George Dockrell today.

He spends most of his first over firing the ball across the left-handed Devon Conway. He's trying to avoid Conway playing the sweep shot, because it is a really effective shot for him.

It works to a degree, with Conway leaving the sweep firmly in the locker, but Dockrell does concede two wides.

    Six from the over.

I have been impressed with Ireland. They don't have the resources of other countries and not all their players are playing in the big franchise leagues, but they have a solid team ethic.

  10. Post update

Finn Allen was starting to look really dangerous for New Zealand.

His wicket was a timely one for Ireland.

  11. NZ 69-1

It's hard to not enjoy Kane Williamson, isn't it?

He picks up his first boundary with a glorious lofted drive into the cover boundary.

He's close to picking up a second off the final ball of the over as Barry McCarthy offers him some width, but Curtis Campher does superbly, coming round from deep third, to parry to his mate and save a couple of runs.

  12. NZ 59-1

Another quiet over. Ireland will be happy.

New Zealand are able to just work three singles off Gareth Delany's second over.

That's a good comeback from him, after going for 13 in his first over.

  13. NZ 56-1

After taking that good catch, Fionn Hand comes into the attack.

It's a good start too with just four singles coming from the over.

Ireland will want a couple of quiet overs here to get some control back.

  14. NZ 52-1

The powerplay ends with a dot ball to new batter Kane Williamson.

New Zealand have won those six overs.

That was a good sharp catch from Fionn Hand. It was hit very hard and went to him really quickly.

  16. WICKET

    Allen c Hand b Adair 32 (NZ 52-1)

    Breakthrough! Ireland needed this.

Finn Allen followed the six with another boundary down the ground. He's a naturally aggressive player and he looks to go again.

But this time he drills straight to Fionn Hand at mid-off. It's a good catch actually, because it's a difficult height, around the chest, but he holds onto it well.

Allen is fuming with himself, punching his bat, and hanging his head back in frustration.

  17. NZ 48-0

    Six!

Mark Adair drops a little bit short and Finn Allen just helps it on its way, over fine leg, for the first six of the day.

  18. NZ 36-0

The runs are starting to come.

It has taken the New Zealand batters some time to get used to the pace of this new pitch, but Finn Allen, in particular, is starting to.

He picks up another boundary with a beautiful drive over mid-off. He's up to 22 now.

  19. Post update

Here's the drop of Devon Conway.

It was a poor miss from Harry Tector and he knew it.

  20. NZ 29-0

    Oh runs!

Ireland turn to spin in the form of Gareth Delany, but Finn Allen takes a bit of liking to him.

He clubs down the ground twice, before piercing the gap in the covers.

    That's more like it.
