  1. 'Stokes is the ultimate competitor in anything he does'published at 12:35 Greenwich Mean Time 13 November 2022

England captain Jos Buttler: "I'm so proud of everyone. It has been a long journey. There have been a few changes to how we have played over the years and we are reaping the rewards from that.

"It has been a fantastic tournament. We have been away a long time, we were away in Pakistan before then, which was valuable to us.

"This felt a long way away after the Ireland result, but the character we have shown in must-win games every time has been amazing."

On impact of Matthew Mott: "He has fitted in really well. We have quite a few Aussies with us this tournament. He has given the players freedom and allowed the players to go out and trust themselves."

On Adil Rashid's performance: "That over was a huge moment in the game. A fantastic over from Adil. The last four games he has been fantastic. He is always the guy we throw the ball to to make things happen."

England head coach Matthew Mott speaking to BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra: "It is a pretty special way to finish cricket here for a while. I thought it was an amazing occasion - the Pakistan crowd were exceptional and in full voice.

"The bowling and fielding effort was brilliant. It was a tricky wicket and gave the bowlers some assistance. When we sent them in we were hoping for under 160 so to keep them down to that was a great effort. We had a time out in the middle where we struggled for a few runs and they bowled exceptionally well but I thought we came home strong.

"Ben Stokes does win you games. There was criticism before the tournament but you just knew it would fire him up. He's been brilliant for us with the ball in this tournament, often taking the first over and leading the way. He has played two big innings under pressure and he's delivered, amazing."

England's Ben Stokes speaking to BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra: "I feel really good. It has been an amazing night.

"Looking at the scoreboard and just assessing the situation and looking at where we want to be with three or four overs to go really simplifies things for me. I'd rather be out there trying to affect the game rather than being sat in the dugout saying 'I wonder what is going to happen?'.

"I don't think our backs were up against the wall. I thought we were always ahead in the game and I thought it was our game to lose. It was a tricky wicket, it started bouncing as and the ball got older. The bowlers have to take credit for restricting them to 137. Sam Curran has done it all tournament and Rash has turned up at the backend of the tournament when it really matters for us. That was the best I've seen him bowl for England in a T20."

  4. 'We will cherish this moment for the rest of our lives'published at 12:29 Greenwich Mean Time 13 November 2022

England spinner Adil Rashid: "It feels good. I'm so proud of the boys. It shows from the position we were in earlier in the tournament how things can change and we had the belief and we've gone all the way. Everyone was nervous but as long as we had Stokes, Moeen and Liam Livingstone to come, we had the firepower to get us over the line.

"It is hard to describe. We will cherish this moment for the rest of our lives."

  5. 'I am a bit speechless'published at 12:27 Greenwich Mean Time 13 November 2022

England's Jos Buttler speaking to BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra: "I am immensely proud. It hasn't sunk in at all obviously. What an unbelievable effort from everyone to win the game. I am a bit speechless to be honest.

"My emotions were good at some times and terrible at others. At the halfway stage it felt like everything was under control but they bowled really well for a period there and created great pressure, but that man again in Ben Stokes. He just knows how to get it done.

"It feels really different to 2019. It was a different time, difference place and a different group. I am just immensely proud. Both are just incredible and I don't know what to say."

  6. 'We have risen to every challenge we have faced'published at 12:24 Greenwich Mean Time 13 November 2022

England's Ben Stokes: "I think in finals when you are chasing you forget the hard work that went before. I think the way we bowled, Adil Rashid, Sam Curran, that's what won us the game.

"It was a tricky wicket, you never felt like you were in on it, so to restrict them the bowlers have to take a lot of credit for that."

On bouncing back after the Ireland defeat earlier in the tournament: "With that being so early in the tournament we had to address it, say what we said and let it go. In tournaments you cannot carry baggage with you. That was a little blip, credit to Ireland, but the best teams learn from it, take it on the chin and move on. I feel like we have risen to every challenge we have faced.

On comparisons with the 2019 final: "To represent your country at a World Cup is amazing. This has been a good one."

  8. 'We've got a fantastic togetherness'published at 12:21 Greenwich Mean Time 13 November 2022

England's Mark Wood speaking to BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra: "I am delighted. We are double champions! It is a great feeling.

"I am so pleased for everyone in the group. Ben Stokes was magnificent at the end there, and Sam Curran has been class in the whole tournament. I am so pleased for David Willey too, after missing out in the 50-over World Cup, he's got his medal. I'm so pleased for Jos too, I could just keep going and going. We've got a fantastic togetherness in the group.

"Ben Stokes is the man you want in this situations, he's a legend. At times he didn't hit them as cleanly as he wanted but he was there at the end. Time and time again he is the man for us."

  11. 'Stokes is phenomenal'published at 12:15 Greenwich Mean Time 13 November 2022

England's Liam Livingstone speaking to BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra: "It was alright out there, Stokesy was quite calm. As soon as I walked out he said 'let's make two Cumbrians hit the winning runs to make England win the World Cup'. It was special. He is phenomenal man. He has done it twice to win England a World Cup. What a night.

"He does it. He just gets it done. That's what you want in this team. Boy, it is going to be a long night!"

At times Ben Stokes was very lucky, there was a period where he missed about 10 balls in a row to Naseem Shah. He managed to get England over the line, it was brilliant.

    England deserved to win.

    Alex Hartley
Former England bowler on BBC Test Match Special

You look back at Ben Stokes and say he is England's hero again.

But, if he'd got out when he was struggling he would have put a lot of pressure on Moeen Ali and Liam Livingstone, but what he does so well is ride that wave. He is a gritty player.

He is a big-game player. There was a lot of question marks over him before the tournament and he's got England over the line twice now in games that really matter.
