Curran brothers get Invincibles over the line against Superchargerspublished at 18:01 British Summer Time 11 August 2022
Brothers Sam Curran and Tom Curran both starred with the bat as Oval Invincibles fought back from a poor start to successfully chase 158 against Northern Superchargers.
Invincibles were struggling at 21-3 and 88-4 before Sam Curran smashed a brilliant 39-ball 60, including five massive sixes. He was dropped on 46 by Adam Lyth, though.
He was bowled by Dwayne Bravo to leave Invincibles still needing 21 to win from 11 balls, but Tom Curran smashed David Wiese for successive sixes as they Invincibles claimed their second win from three games.
"It was great. We needed one of those games to play in and The Hundred needed it as well," Sam Curran told BBC Sport.
"You can get confidence and energy for wins like that and we needed it.
"I feel like an experienced player and with Sam Billings and Will Jacks missing with England Lions I did feel a little bit of extra pressure."
Earlier, Superchargers, who have now lost two of their three games, made 157-7, with Adam Lyth smashing 79 off 33 balls, including the fastest half-century in The Hundred, from just 17 balls.
Here's what also happened:
- England and Invincibles opener Jason Roy saw his summer of poor form continue as he was dismissed without scoring from his second ball.
- Invincibles spinner Sunil Narine had a hat-trick opportunity having dismissed Adam Hose and David Wiese in successive balls.
- A brilliant Roelof van der Merwe caught Jack Haynes to leave Invincibles needing six runs from six balls and they got over the line when Faf du Plessis dropped Tom Curran and Invincibles got back for two to win with three balls to spare.
