Summary

  • Phoenix recover from slow start to post 130-7

  • Cameos from Wade & Howell drag Phoenix to respectable score

  1. Phoenix 50-4published at 50 balls

Cobb manages to sneak in another five balls of his own bowling. Tidy again from the Fire skipper, only six runs conceded.

Ones and twos have helped the Phoenix rebuild but the Fire won't mind it either. This is the Phoenix's lowest score after 50 balls in The Hundred.

There are ooos and ahhhhs to our right. The fans may have a beach ball.

  3. Phoenix 44-4published at 45 balls

It's not great viewing for Phoenix fans, we're nearly halfway through the innings and they're going at less than a run a ball.

  4. Phoenix 41-4published at 41 balls

Driven firmly by Wade, in the air... but just wide of the fielder! Close but it's four valuable runs to the Phoenix.

  5. Phoenix 37-4published at 40 balls

Cobb carries on through to bowl an excellent set of 10, a wicket and only nine runs from it - and six of those was a catch that was dropped over the boundary.

What a chance for the Fire to claim their first win of the campaign.

I think you take five balls to get set now. You need to get a partnership now. The next five or 10 balls need to be singles to get a partnership. Only hit the very bad balls and stay intent. You need to stop this slide a bit.

    Benjamin b Cobb 18 (Phoenix 35-4)

It's four (yes, I am still talking about the cricket)!

Josh Cobb brings himself on, Benjamin hits his second ball for six after Pretorius falls over the boundary in taking the catch but it doesn't matter too much, he bowls him next up!

Benjamin tried to swipe it leg side, missed and it is a rather ugly dismissal. The Fire are, well, on fire!

I don't want to talk about the football. Only 45 minutes of pain left.

Smeed, Moeen and Livingstone all gone. The Fire couldn't have dreamt of a better powerplay and they keep the pressure up in this five.

Just a single from it as Scrimshaw continues to impress.

It's one way traffic at the moment, a bit like another game taking place this evening...

They just need to create a little partnership here after losing three quick wickets.

Last week, our colleague Matt Henry was given behind the scenes access to Welsh Fire's training and preparation ahead of their second fixture against Oval Invincibles - a game they eventually lost.

From spelling words backwards to fantasy football, there's some excellent insight into what goes on in Hundred meeting rooms and training sessions.

A huge powerplay for Welsh Fire. Three massive wickets.

    Livingstone b Scrimshaw 4 (Phoenix 27-3)

Massive wicket! Livingstone moved across his stumps, eyeing up the ramp shot but he missed and the ball clatters into middle stump.

Two enormous wickets for the impressive George Scrimshaw. What a way to end the powerplay.

You always feel unlucky when you get caught down the leg side. There wasn't that much of an appeal, I wasn't sure if it was going to get given, but Moeen walks off.

    Moeen c Clarke b Scrimshaw 10 (Phoenix 22-2)

    Caught behind down leg!

Moeen tries to get this one away leg side as well but can only feather it behind to Joe Clarke.

It isn't a huge appeal but Clarke was convinced, the umpire agreed and Moeen didn't hang about. A wicket for George Scrimshaw, and a big one at that.

He's such a clean ball-striker. It's not gone too far away from Banton but it goes for a one-bounce four.

Crunched! Swung away by Moeen Ali. One bounce for four.

  19. Phoenix 18-1published at 20 balls

Moeen treats everyone to another classy shot through the off side but this time there is a fielder out there to keep it to a single.

Good set from Jake Ball, only four from it as he ends with a bouncer that Benjamin unsuccessfully attempts to reverse scoop.

  20. Phoenix 14-1published at 15 balls

Two boundaries in the set for Chris Benjamin to help get the Phoenix moving.

The first is driven smartly through the off side and the next is ramped cleverly. That should help get the away team going.
