Phoenix 46-1published at 30 balls
E Jones 18, A Jones 7
It's all about keeping up with the Joneses now (or trying to). Two home favourites out in the middle and they know each other's games inside out.
They're rotating the strike nicely.

Both teams have started quite well, it's pretty evenly poised. Superchargers will be happy with the wicket of Sophie Devine.
Devine c Wolvaardt b Davidson-Richards 19 (Phoenix 37-1)
And as we see so often, a boundary brings a wicket.
Devine looks to go big again into the leg side and Wolvaardt barely has to move. She doesn't drop those.
Can you hear that? It's the sound of Bess Heath heaving a sigh of relief.

Sophie Devine is a dangerous player. If you bowl like that to her, she won't hesitate to thump it into the stands.
Eeeek. That's not what any bowler wants to see. Parried up by Heath who boings it over the boundary. Spinning like a dog chasing its tail but that should have gone. A real mess and even ADR isn't smiling.
As if that's an invitation, Sophie Devine launches it into the Hollies for six.

Have you noticed that batters are taking a bit more time to get ready at the crease this year? I think there's a bit more tactical time-wasting because if fielding teams don't bowl their balls by a certain time, they have to bring a fielder in from the boundary.
Devine 9, E Jones 16
Going along at a nice click here these two. Not often Devine finds herself playing second fiddle but Jones is playing some lovely shots.

A beautiful shot from Eve Jones. Deep in the crease, just waiting for the ball and there's no need to run for that one.
The orange and purple combo is inducing cravings of a certain brand of chocolates that one usually eats at Christmas...
Devine 7, E Jones 11
Devine with the inside edge on to her own toe. She's down briefly and I can feel that pain. Black toenail incoming. ADR (smiling as ever) unsure whether to appeal or not.
It's chaos out there as Langston lands on her knees going for a flashing shot from Jones.

Oh, that is an ugly misfield. That is nought out of 10 fielding.
Devine 2, Jones 10
Jones finds the first boundary of the afternoon. Bit of width from Langston and she frees herself up to play is past backwards point.
Horrendous misfield from Hollie Armitage who literally walks over the next one with her hands between her legs.
Nutmeg!

That is a lovely looking shot from Jones but the ball really slowed down then as it landed.
Devine 1, E Jones 3
There's definitely some spin in this pitch. Lucy Higham with a good five to start. Jones looks to go aerial but doesn't get all of it before she gets one up and over the sweeper.
She's not seeing it cleanly yet and the lack of pace causing a few problems but it seems Jones is intent on going for it today.

Birmingham Phoenix have the worst kit. I don't mind the orange but the gold pads and gold helmets... I don't like it.
But I also don't like the purple of the Superchargers.
The sun is shining over Edgbaston and there are some BIG hitters in these sides. Could be a big hefty score on this hybrid pitch especially with that short boundary towards the Hollies.

Superchargers have a good side. Gaby Lewis replacing Jemimah Rodrigues is a surprise to me, they've got a lot of good players on the bench that could have also stepped in.
Birmingham Phoenix are the team to beat for me in the women's competition. They have got all bases covered.
