  5. We'd hope to chase that total down - Cumminspublished at 13:17 British Summer Time 12 October 2022

Australia bowler Pat Cummins, speaking to TMS: "Disappointing, obviously. I thought we started really well but I thought Malan and Mo batted really well through the middle, got them to a good score but one we'd hope to chase down more often than not.

"The more T20 I play, the more I learn about my own bowling and how different slower balls or yorkers or field placings can work. As a team, how you structure you bowling and batting... a lot of info learned."

On T20 World Cup chances: "We have the same squad basically as we did 12 months ago. We got on great and obviously these are playing conditions we're all used to from playing for Australia or in the Big Bash. It's not easy the T20 World Cup, it's usually one of about 10 teams can win it. It'll be fun."

On the last game of the series: "We need to bring it all together in the last game, 20 good overs with the ball. The middle order has batted well to get us over the line. We probably only need one of those top guys to fire to get us over the line."

On Wade obstructing the field incident: "If it was Wadey, I definitely would have referred it. I think it could have gone either way and they didn't review. There was no malice so play on. He rates himself an an AFL player, though!"

Astie Bolton: Curran and Malan probably the batter and bowler with the most pressure on their places, but pulling through and putting in class performances when it matters most!

Player of the match, Dawid Malan: "It’s always nice to score runs and contribute to a win, thankfully I was able to get runs on the board.

"Knowledge of the grounds definitely helps and the more you can learn every time you play in different conditions, the better.

"I had a slow start in Pakistan then found my rhythm, as I went on, hopefully I can keep going and put runs on the board."

On Mike Hussey presenting his 50th cap: "He’s been one of my idols growing up - Mr Cricket - for him to present my cap was a special moment."

England captain Jos Buttler on the win and Dawid Malan: "Really satisfying win, losing the toss again and setting a target. We showed great character and Dawid Malan played really well.

"He has been really consistent and has done it against every attack around the world.

"He's played some good innings and this was extra special after getting his 50th cap before the game."

On Sam Curran: "He's one of these bowlers who wants to be in the thick of it in those big moments. We needed to get Tim David out to win the game, he's got great power and Sam did that for us."

Australia captain Aaron Finch on what was the difference between the sides: "Fielding. We were really poor - sloppy, dropped chances. Especially when we took four wickets in the first 10, if we get them five or six down we make it easier for ourselves."

On whether this XI will be their team for the World Cup: "It depends on the opposition. [We will] mix and match and find the best match-ups. It will be close. There will be debate about one or two spots."

  10. 'Great for our confidence' - Moeenpublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 12 October 2022

England all-rounder Moeen Ali, speaking to BT Sport: "He [Dawid Malan] played exceptionally well. He attacked the ball nicely.

"They [Australia] are a top bowling attack. They are a very good team. It is great for the confidence of the team.

"We are progressing in the right direction. Pakistan was big for us as a team and here winning two games, Jos coming back and Livi [Liam Livingstone] is still to come back in."

The run map shows Dawid Malan scored 82 with 4 sixes, 7 fours, 1 three, 4 twos, and 19 singles for England
  11. England still not World Cup favourites - Malanpublished at 13:01 British Summer Time 12 October 2022

England batter Dawid Malan, speaking to TMS: "Over the moon. It was a really good bowling performance to restrict them. We managed to get just above par and our bowlers bowled fantastically well."

On his partnership with Moeen Ali: "We were trying to bat for at least three or four overs while still being as attacking as we could. Then suddenly we had a bit of momentum and then teams go on the defensive which gives you more scoring options."

On his role in the side after moving down the order in the first T20: "We all know anyone can bat at specific times in this game. If Livi [Liam Livingstone] was playing in the last game he might have gone at three. We are very flexible."

And on whether England are now favourites for the World Cup: "No, I don't think so. We are still finding our combinations. We are happy coming in chasing. If we play as well as we can we can beat any team."

Malan batted very well. The English punters don't like him but he batted superbly. If you compare him to Tim David he doesn't hit the ball too hard or as spectacularly but he makes the team better and that is all you can ask for.
