David Warner really got bogged down, he wasn't able to get the ball away. He got into a really ugly position trying to hit it over mid-wicket.

Skied and taken by Harry Brook in the covers.

David Warner had been going nowhere, tried to get himself going with a big shot but sends the ball straight up as he tries to heave Reece Topley into the leg side. An ugly shot.

Brook made the catch look simple and Topley's impressive run continues.

  3. Aus 22-1published at 4 overs

    Target 179

Australia take 10 from Willey's over but he's also got rid of the Australian skipper.

Mitch Marsh is the new batter and is off the mark with a single.

I'm reasonably glad the stump mic was turned down after that Aaron Finch dismissal.

He doesn't look happy as he heads down the tunnel.

  5. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 3.4 overs

    Finch c Stokes b Willey 13 (Aus 20-1)

"No!" shouts Finch as soon as he hits it. Straight to Ben Stokes at mid-off.

It's a bit of a half-volley from Willey, in what has been a pretty poor over, but it's brought a wicket now.

Similar to Hales in the England innings, Finch has just hit a four-ball straight to the fielder.

David Willey will continue. He's got David Warner out three out four times in T20 internationals. It's Aaron Finch on strike for now, though.

What a good over that was from Reece Topley. He is an impressive bowler.

  8. Aus 12-0published at 3 overs

    Target 179

Finch's stance is very interesting. His trigger movement is taking his back foot so far back that he is almost in a baseball stance.

Anyway, it is Warner struggling for the majority of the over as Reece Topley reels off four dot balls in a row to finish.

The last comes off the outside edge as Warner tries to work to leg but the ball drops short of the fielder at short third.

Aaron Finch has had a lot of trouble with the ball swinging back in from the left-hander recently. So what he is trying to do is take that front pad out of the way. It had become a bit of a target.

  10. Aus 10-0published at 2 overs

    Warner 3, Finch 6

Finch pushes a single from the last and it is just the six from the over. Decent start for England's bowlers.

Reece Topley will bowl the next.

  11. Aus 9-0published at 1.5 overs

    Target 179

After just a single from the first four balls of David Willey's over, Finch hits up and over extra cover for four.

Firmly struck and giving the wide delivery what it deserved.

A very good over from Ben Stokes and he ends it with a slower ball that Finch watches careful and just pushes into the covers.

David Warner nudges the first ball off his hip for a single before Stokes finds a decent amount of late swing to bring the second ball back in to Aaron Finch.

Kept out by Finch but good signs for Stokes and England.

It's a quick turnaround and an interesting choice from Jos Buttler. Ben Stokes is going to bowl the first over of the Australia innings.

Ben Stokes is not really a quick starter in T20s. So there's a perception of what Ben Stokes is that doesn't really match with reality.

People also talk about his bowling but his bowling in T20s has been quite expensive in the past, so I'd be more inclined to look at Liam Livingstone when he is fit.

  18. Stokes form a concern?published at 11:05 British Summer Time 12 October 2022

While the partnership between Malan and Moeen will have pleased England greatly, they might be slightly concerned by the form of Ben Stokes.

The Test captain struggled to get going again before being bowled by Adam Zampa for seven from 11 deliveries.

His quality is not in doubt and this was only his second T20 international in 18 months but with the start of the T20 World Cup fast approaching and Liam Livingstone still to come back from injury, Stokes' position in the XI is far from guaranteed.

  20. Australia need 179 to winpublished at 10:58 British Summer Time 12 October 2022

From 54-4 in the ninth over, England will be happy with where they've ended up.

That is in no small part down to Dawid Malan. The left-hander come in at first drop and looked in magnificent touch from the off. A couple of early drives were timed to perfection and his ability to pick the gaps was on show throughout.

Add in a couple of big hits as the innings went on and you have an exceptional T20 innings from an often maligned England batter.

The run map shows Dawid Malan scored 82 with 4 sixes, 7 fours, 1 three, 4 twos, and 19 singles for England
