Summary

  • First of two T20Is between Scotland & NZ, with an ODI to follow

  1. Postpublished at 16 overs

    New Zealand 158-2

Two more boundaries for Finn Allen take him to 87...

    Batting beautifully.

Chris Greaves finishes with figures of 0-31 from his four overs - tidy stuff from Scotland's leggie.

  2. Postpublished at 15 overs

    New Zealand 146-2

Mark Watt's latest over goes for nine - spoiled slightly by a Finn Allen six that just cleared the long-on fielder.

The New Zealand opener now has 77 from 44.

  3. wicket

WICKET Phillips c Leask b Tahir 23published at 13.4 overs

    New Zealand 136-2

Glenn Phillips was lucky not to be caught earlier in the over - finding an open space as Safyaan Sharif tried in vain to chase it down - but he falls now, caught in the deep looking for more quick runs.

Darryl Mitchell is the new batter - he's been in pretty good nick this summer.

  4. 6 runs

    Postpublished at 13.1 overs

    New Zealand 133-1

Ooft, New Zealand are motoring now.

Finn Allen lofts the first ball of Hamza Tahir's over well over my head in the media tent.

He hits a clean ball that lad.

  5. 6 runs

    Postpublished at 13 overs

    New Zealand 127-1

The return of pace sees any pressure relieved, as Glenn Phillips swings a massive six over backward square-leg, before chipping four more through midwicket.

This is all a bit messy from Chris Sole - a front-foot no-ball disappears over the fence, and the free hit races away for another boundary.

Yet another no-ball adds more runs to the total - 27 from the over...

53 runs have come from Sole's three overs.

  6. 50 runs

for Finn Allenpublished at 12 overs

    New Zealand 100-1

A third consecutive over without a boundary - on a ground this small, you can feel the pressure building.

Finn Allen has been starved of the strike somewhat since Martin Guptill's wicket, but a single down the ground brings up his 50 off 33 balls.

  7. Postpublished at 11 overs

    New Zealand 95-1

Another over of accumulating from New Zealand goes for just five.

More good work from Scotland's spinners.

  8. Postpublished at 10 overs

    New Zealand 90-1

A very tidy over from Chris Greaves goes for just four singles.

Can Scotland rein New Zealand in a bit here?

Mark Watt is back into the attack.

  9. wicket

WICKET Guptill c Cross b Berrington 40published at 8.5 overs

    New Zealand 85-1

One big shot too many for Martin Guptill, and the New Zealand danger man is gone.

Down on one knee, he can only slice it high into the Edinburgh sky, and Matthew Cross takes a safe catch.

Glenn Phillips joins Finn Allen in the middle.

  10. 6 runs

    Postpublished at 8.2 overs

    New Zealand 83-0

And Martin Guptill takes an immediate liking to the Clydesdale man, hitting him back over his head for four, before rocking onto the back foot and smashing the ball out of the ground.

Short boundaries here at The Grange, but that was a big blow!

  11. Postpublished at 8 overs

    New Zealand 73-0

Two huge cries of catch from the two first balls bowled by Chris Greaves, but they both fall short of George Munsey and Calum Macleod, who are stationed at long-on and long-off, respectively.

A drag-down is then pulled away for four by Martin Guptill.

Richie Berrington has seen enough - the Scotland skipper has brought himself on to bowl.

  12. Postpublished at 7 overs

    New Zealand 63-0

A mix-up between the two batters gives Scotland the chance of a run-out, but the throw to Matthew Cross is wide of the stumps.

Need to take those half-chances you feel.

  13. 6 runs

    Postpublished at 6.3 overs

    New Zealand 60-0

Hamza Tahir returns and Finn Allen belts him back over his head for six - straight into the trees!

And again! This one clears the trees... he's raced to 38 from 18 balls.

  14. Postpublished at 6 overs

    New Zealand 48-0

    Shot!

Finn Allen gets up on his toes, and punches Chris Sole for four through the off-side. A lovely flick to midwicket brings him four more.

Sole finishes well - a quicker one beats Guptill.

New Zealand take 48 from the powerplay, and crucially, have lost no wickets...

  15. Postpublished at 5 overs

    New Zealand

"Lovely stuff here Saffy", shouts Scotland keeper Matthew Cross, and he's not wrong.

Guptill and Allen do their best to belt Safyaan Sharif down the ground, but can only deal in ones and twos.

    Seven off that over.

  16. Postpublished at 4 overs

    New Zealand 31-0

Great areas from Mark Watt, and he concedes just one run from his opening over.

Spin has been hard to get away so far.

  17. Postpublished at 3 overs

    New Zealand 30-0

The New Zealand openers tuck into some short stuff from Safyaan Sharif, and take 10 runs from the over.

Richie Berrington is chopping and changing his bowlers here, Mark Watt to bowl the fourth...

  18. 6 runs

    Postpublished at 2 overs

    New Zealand 20-0

Cheers in the stands as Martin Guptill splices a full toss straight to a fielder.

However, those cheers are short-lived - the umpire has his arm out for a no-ball.

Guptill rubs salt in the wound by playing a gorgeous lofted cover drive for six, and then upper cutting the next ball for four.

Finn Allen gets in on the action, punching a lovely shot through the covers for four more.

  19. Postpublished at 1 over

    New Zealand 3-0

A fairly watchful start from the tourists, just three singles from it.

Chris Sole will share new ball duties.

  20. Postpublished at 14:29 British Summer Time 27 July 2022

    Scotland v New Zealand (14:30)

We've had both national anthems, and are just about ready to go.

Martin Guptill and Finn Allen stride out to the middle for the Blackcaps.

We're going to start with some left-arm tweakers - Hamza Tahir has the new ball...
