    Davies b Evison 23 (Warwickshire 41-1 v Kent)

A breakthrough for the visitors, and a timely one at that. Joey Evison is brought into the attack, his first ball is despatched for four but his third sees Alex Davies chop-on.

The hosts had looked increasingly settled against Kent's short-handed attack but the all-rounder has given them something to build on.

Will Rhodes joins Rob Yates, currently on 23, in the middle.

    Notts 32-0 v Somerset

    Ben DuckettImage source, Rex Features

Nottinghamshire's opening pair could not be much more different.

Ben Duckett is so busy, looking to score at every opportunity - the very essence of England's new attacking brand of red ball cricket. He belts Lewis Gregory to the midwicket fence to move on to 29.

At the other end, Haseeb Hameed is content to blunt the bowling, and finally gets off the mark in the 12th over, pulling Peter Siddle into the leg-side.

  3. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:51 British Summer Time 13 April 2023

    Vince c Sibley b Abbott 18 (Surrey v Hampshire 38-3)

The big wicket falls. Australian Sean Abbott replaces Roach in the attack and his first ball swings away from James Vince, tempting the England man into a waft which sends a nick to Dom Sibley at first slip.

Sibley needs two bites at the cherry but holds on to the ball on his way to ground and Surrey are firmly on top in the first hour.

Liam Dawson strides out to join Fletcha Middleton who might just be developing abandonment issues by now.

    Surrey v Hampshire 30-2

It's not just Kemar Roach, Daniel Worrall has been in the zone at the other end too. Credit to Fletcha Middleton who is hanging in there despite the ball swinging and seaming past the edge of his bat at regular intervals.

This will have been one of the toughest 45 minutes of the 21-year-old's short First Class career, you'd expect.

  5. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:43 British Summer Time 13 April 2023

    Jennings c Rossington b Cook 1 (Essex v Lancs 12-2)

Keaton Jennings gets a feather through to Adam Rossington, and the Lancashire skipper has to go.

Jennings had been walking at Sam Cook, but Rossington comes up to the stumps to prevent that, and the Essex keeper shows excellent gloves to take the catch.

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:41 British Summer Time 13 April 2023

    Eskinazi lbw b White 0 (Northants v Middlesex 11-4)

The Middlesex top order doesn't exactly inspire confidence...

It's full and straight from Jack White, and Stephen Eskinazi plays all around it.

    Up goes the finger.

    Surrey v Hampshire 21-2

Kemar Roach has been in sensational form in the opening 35 minutes and probably should have his third wicket.

He tempts Fletcha Middleton into a ill-judged push which draws an edge but, diving to his right, Jamie Smith, in behind the stumps for the injured Ben Foakes, puts down a sharp chance. That will play on his mind for a while, you'd expect.

  8. wicket

    Malan c Azad b Sanderson 2 (Northants v Middlesex 11-3)

    Make that three!

Ben Sanderson has been superb this morning, and now has remarkable figures of 3-2 from his five overs.

It's almost a replay of the Sam Robson wicket, but Pieter Malan finds Hassan Azad at second slip on this occasion.

  9. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:36 British Summer Time 13 April 2023

    Robson c Vasconcelos b Sanderson 4 (Northants v Middlesex 10-2)

Two for Northants, and two for Ben Sanderson!

It's a lovely delivery, and Sam Robson can only edge it through to Ricardo Vasconcelos at first slip, who makes no mistake.

  10. Postpublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 13 April 2023

    Warwickshire 18-0 v Kent

Bad news for the visitors. Matt Quinn is forced out of the attack for Kent four balls into the seventh over.

They are already without Grant Stewart and Nathan Gilchrist through injury.

Conor McKerr, who has joined on a two-match loan from Surrey, will complete the over - he concedes a single and then a boundary to Rob Yates.

Since the opening ball from Quinn at 11am Yates and Alex Davies have looked untroubled.

  11. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:27 British Summer Time 13 April 2023

    Stoneman c McManus b Sanderson 3 (Northants v Middlesex 7-1)

Mark Stoneman hasn't looked comfortable at any stage this morning, and Ben Sanderson is rewarded for a probing opening spell.

It's that nagging fourth stump channel that does the trick, as the former England opener gets a healthy edge through to wicketkeeper Lewis McManus.

  12. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:24 British Summer Time 13 April 2023

    Gubbins b Roach 2 (Surrey v Hampshire 10-2)

Cricket is cruel. Nick Gubbins attempts to push Roach back down the track but gets a big bottom edge, the ball loops into the air and time stands still, as does Gubbins, as it rolls back to hit the base of the stumps.

James Vince is the new man in, we have a tasty match-up against Kemar Roach to look forward to here.

Vince is off the mark from his first ball, poor old Fletcha Middleton remains scoreless from 16 deliveries at the other end.

  13. Play under way at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 11:21 British Summer Time 13 April 2023

    Durham 5-0 v Worcs

After a 15 minute delay, they've got going in Durham.

Alex Lees and Michael Jones are opening the batting for the hosts in this sole Division Two fixture being played at the moment.

Meanwhile, there will be another inspection at Leicestershire at midday.

  14. Postpublished at 11:20 British Summer Time 13 April 2023

    Surrey v Hants 9-1

Just the three scoring shots in the opening five overs in South London, and two of those, both boundaries, came from Felix Organ, who is already back in the hutch.

A bright start from the hosts in the sunshine after being asked to bowl first.

    Wells c Rossington b Porter 3 (Essex v Lancs 4-1)

Essex celebrate wicketImage source, Rex Features

    An early strike at Chelmsford!

Jamie Porter bowled beautifully last week, taking nine wickets in the match as Essex swept past Middlesex, and he's straight into his work this morning.

Luke Wells fends at one from just back of a length, and gets a glove down the leg side through to Adam Rossington behind the stumps.

Josh Bohannon joins Keaton Jennings in the middle.

  16. Postpublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 13 April 2023

    Notts 4-0 v Somerset

A typically watchful start from Haseeb Hameed, who sees off Craig Overton's opening over with minimal fuss.

Ben Duckett also watches Josh Davey's first two deliveries go by his off-stump before unfurling a lovely cover drive that races away for four.

  17. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 13 April 2023

    Organ lbw b Roach 8 (Surrey v Hants 8-1)

Kemar Roach was bang on the money for the previous two deliveries to Felix Organ and he gets his man with the final delivery of his over, pinning him all ends up to give Surrey the perfect start.

Nick Gubbins joins Fletcha Middleton in the middle.

    Northants v Middlesex 2-0

Absolutely no surprise that Northants chose to bowl in these fresh April conditions, and Ben Sanderson must be licking his lips at the top of his mark.

Plenty of oos and ahs from the stacked slip cordon as he beats Sam Robson with the first three deliveries of the game.

Robson then gets the scoreboard ticking with a nudge to square leg.

  20. Postpublished at 11:04 British Summer Time 13 April 2023

    Surrey v Hants 0-0

Exactly 364 days and 30 minutes ago Hampshire won the toss at the Oval and elected to bowl first against Surrey...

... they ended up losing by an innings and 17 runs inside three days.

The visitors have won the toss again, but, after a spot of confusion, have chosen to bat first this time.

Another difference this season is they won’t have to contend with Ben Foakes, who cracked 76 and a swashbuckling 103 not out in Surrey's draw at Old Trafford last weekend.

The England man is replaced in the side by Tom Lawes, with Jamie Smith taking the gloves.
