It's become "shoes off if you hate Carey" now.

Australia are now in a position to get over 300. I still think that is slightly below par because this is a fantastic wicket.

But from 85-4, they've got themselves back into the game.

  4. Aus 244-5published at 53 overs

Two dots end the over and more boos for Alex Carey.

If you're new to the Ashes, England fans are unhappy with his involvement in this...

"If you hate Carey stand up," sing the England fans. Quite a lot of them do.

Alex Carey is off the mark with a drive through the covers for four.

The England fans boo. The Aussie fans stand and applaud.

Mitch Marsh has changed the day in the afternoon session.

England now need to turn it back their way.

There are significant boos for Alex Carey.

Perhaps not quite as loud as they would be if he walked out in the middle of a session.

"Same old Aussies, always cheating" is going round Headingley too.

    Thanks Sam.

Think your place in the side may be up for debate after that session...

England need to be batting tonight, don't they? They arguably might need to be batting in an hour.

Alex Carey will be the new batter when play resumes after tea. The timing of that wicket might spare him the 'welcome' he could've got had he been walking out on his own.

We'll soon find out. The umpires have made their way to the middle, the players won't be far behind.

After four wickets in this morning, we've decided it's best to hand back over to Callum Matthews for the evening session...

A great innings but a disappointing end for Mitch Marsh.

Chris Woakes found his inside edge, the ball bounced up off his back leg and looped to Zak Crawley at second slip.

To say England needed it would be quite the understatement!

Putting England's issues aside for a moment, Mitchell Marsh did bat brilliantly after he was dropped.

There is something in the surface for the bowlers - not least some pace - but if they get it wrong, batters can play their shots and Marsh did that superbly.

It was a slightly risky single to bring up his century but it was a deserved ton for the all-rounder.

Two big differences between the sides so far this series. 1. England's fielding has been really poor. This is beyond unlucky now. 2. Australia, when given lives and chances, make England pay. They are far more ruthless.

England will be relieved. They can't bowl in partnerships in that session or create any chances.

Travis Head played it beautifully and just allowed Mitchell Marsh to play aggressively and take the bowlers on.

  17. Tea - Aus 240-5published at 15:47 British Summer Time 6 July 2023

England should have got Mitchell Marsh at the start of the afternoon session, they did get him right at the end of it.

What happened in between was just about the worst-case scenario for Ben Stokes' side.

Marsh batted brilliantly, scored quickly and turned the game on its head. Not only that but England lost Ollie Robinson to injury and we await news on whether he'll be able to bowl again in the match.

Still, a positive conclusion and if England can take the last five Australia wickets quickly, they might just be in a position where this afternoon's mess isn't too costly.

Marsh is gutted. He held his bat on top of his head before dragging himself off.

He got a low five from Ben Stokes on his way.

England desperately, desperately needed that wicket.

It was a brilliant innings from Mitch Marsh though. He's entertained us all with a scintillating Ashes hundred. He's pushed Australia ahead in this game.
